Just a quick update on progress, the light is still pretty dim this morning, it's overcast outside but I wanted to get this posted before my day really begins. You can see I have the curtains finished. I am waiting on an order for some lacey sheers to add. They were clearanced out so for all the windows it will cost less than $25....if I like them, if not, the search will continue. The desk you see has been brown for years. I have meant to paint it, and until this last week it just never got done. It wont be staying forever, but it sure looks better with a coat of paint on it! I sprayed the hardware silver and then sponged white over that to tone it down and make it blend into the background more. If I keep it too long, I would love to find some crystal knobs and pulls, but right now they arent in my budget. I will wait until the sun shines for more pictures. It's just too dim for good ones. Now off I go, a busy day ahead as I am having 27 of my favorite people (relatives) over tonight for a baby shower I am throwing for a very special cousin who has waited a long time for a special blessing:>) I'll post about the party tomorrow, but right now, I have a shower to prepare! I hope all of you have a wonderful last weekend of summer fling! Go swimming, camp, lay around and do nothing. As for me, we will be packing up the youngest daughter, my sweet Victoria Grace, to take her to her college Monday. Bittersweet, let me tell you! I know it will be good for her, but her father and I will miss her so much! My eldest daughter, Lauren Kathleen, will continue to attend a University right here in town and will no doubt be completely smothered with all our affection. I'll see you all soon, have a great weekend!

  1. Hi Kathy -
I love the look that's coming together in your room. I was intrigued by your desk project. I have a desk that is nearly identical. The only difference is that it is straight at the bottom of the drawers. I am sitting at this desk right now as I have adapted it for my computer. I'll have to post about my desk someday when I get a chance to repaint it. It's very dear to my heart because it was my father's desk in his 'Pastor's Office' in the church her pastored through my Jr. High and High School years. Thanks for sharing a peek at your project. Can't wait to see more. Have a restful, blessed weekend. ~Adrienne~

  4. I'm loving the bedroom makeover Kathy. The drapes are just perfect and have that soft, comfy look that you want in a bedroom.

Can't wait to see the final pictures. Take you time with that though and enjoy your children.

  5. Looking good! Baby showers are so fun! How exciting! Have a great time!

It is bittersweet to send them off to school! I have one away and after 4 years it still seems empty around here some days.

    Enjoy your weekend!

  6. Kathy,

I love the curtains and the desk! It looks so light and breezy--even with the gray day. I will be thinking of you as you send Victoria off...

Where is she going to school? I am an MSU grad...

  7. awww it's hard to let go! I was watching a rerun of Gilmore Girls the other day where Rory went off to college and I got all misty eyed thinking about my daughter going. She won't be finished with HS for another two years - can you imagine the wreck I'm gonna be if it makes me cry already LOL!

I love your curtains -so cottagey and the desk looks great! I've been wanting to paint my desk but I don't think I can keep it clear long enough to do that!

    Have a good weekend!

I really love how things are coming together...I still can't get over what a steal that fabric was...it's gorgeous as curtains! I love the desk remake too...cute as can be!
Hope your baby shower is a huge success - how wonderful that a brand new life is coming to one who has waited so long!! Celebrate, relax and enjoy! And sweetie, my heart goes out to you as your youngest goes off to college - I'm sure it will be a bit bittersweet, but you've given her roots and it's time for her wings (trite, I know, but true) Have a lovely weekend....drink in all the last sweet bits of summer. Can't wait to see pics from the shower!

  12. Hi Kathy! I love the drapes! They are wonderful! You always sew so beautifully!!

Give lots of hugs to Victoria Grace! It is so very difficult to wave so long and you will get a huge lump in your throat, tears in your eyes and cry all the way home. I did this when we dropped of our oldest son to go to boot camp three years ago. The memory is as fresh as if it were only yesterday. I still cry when I say goodbye! At least your other daughter is close by. Our youngest is smoothered with our love, so I totally can relate to what you are going through. It is never easy as a parent, is it?

    Have a lovely weekend,
    Becky

  15. Kathy,
I was just catching up on your posts and I spotted your finished curtains. They are gorgeous, I envy you that you can sew so beautifully. I bought a sewing machine last year in hopes that I could make curtains. I struggle with creating a bobbin, and threading the needle. Your curtains are lovely, you are so talented. Karen
