Abbie over at Button Floozies has declared this week International Button Week. Button floozies is a blog for all of us who are hopelessly in love with buttons. I have jars of them in every color and shape imaginable.
That is one of the things that is so fun about buttons, just when you think you've seen them all, you find out you haven't scratched the surface. Along with my jars of buttons sorted by color, I have a jar for my special buttons. Those special little works of art that I especially love. Rhinestones, flowers, crowns, bow ties and carved horn. Wood and lucite and enamel and...well, you get the idea. they are all just too much fun to collect. I find them at yard sales, tossed in an old box that is selling for a quarter, I have a lot that I inherited from Grandmother, many still on cards that sold for five or ten cents. If you click on the picture you can see a few of the unusual buttons I have in my special jar. I always have room for more. If you want to see some real button love head over to Button Floozies. There are more of us every day:>)
Wonderful buttons! I've been kicking myself because years ago when my kids were young I was given my great-grandmother's botton box. I wasn't too smart, but I sure thought I was. I went through and took out anything that looked 'up-to-date' and discarded theest! Now I realize what a BIG mistake I made. So I'll keep looking for special buttons and always wonder what I was thinking.

Oooooooooohhhhh, what pretty buttons!!
ReplyDeleteI love buttons, too. Especially if they're old...The older the better. Right now I'm collecting rhinestone buttons, but they seem to be getting harder and harder to find.

PS: Thank you so much for your sweet comment on my post. You always say the nicest things to brighten my day.
You have some lovely buttons, Kathy...I only have a few from my mother and they aren't the pretty ones.
ReplyDeletelove, bj
I passed up a jar full today...couldn't justify another. Mama has a tin of them in which the lid is like permanently stuck tight. Might have to take a can opener to it!
ReplyDeleteI can remember as a child sorting through my moms button tin...it was so much fun playing with the rhinestone and pearl buttons, pretending they were fine jewelry! Now I collect buttons to use in my mosaics...
ReplyDeleteYou have some beautiful ones there Kathy!
It's so fun to know I'm not the only one who LOVES old buttons! :)
