When the babies are little like this they fall asleep on their feet every few minutes. They tip right over on their little faces with their teeny bums in the air and sleep. Too cute. The 12 year old boy next door is in love. I put a little chair in the coop so he could sit inside and watch them. He is working on naming them all:>)
Aren't they just the sweetest things? Earl and I are planning some raised beds in front of the coop, with a picket fence around it. I plan to let the hens out to scratch every once in a while once the vegetables are big enough to not get picked or trampled. Good for the garden and I love to see the hens in the yard:>) It is a beautiful sunny 70 degree day and I have some weeding and garden beds to take care of while the sun shines. I hope you all have a wonderful spring weekend! I will be making the rounds and catching up with everyone over the next week. I can't wait:>)

ooo, I am just beside myself with wanting some chickens..And, I live right in the middle of town! boo hoo
ReplyDeleteHOWEVER...Stacy lives in the country and she is wanting chickens, too...they are getting ready to build a chicken house.
Yours are so so cute ...peep peep
Keep in mind, the chickies will eat fully grown veggies! I know. Mine reached through the fence to peck at my tomatoes and my lettuce!
ReplyDeleteI would let them free-range after about 6pm in the spring and summer, to minimize the damage they would do!
Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteFirst time to your blog, seen the baby chick and couldn't resist. I have all the breeds that you show. People around here think it is a little weird to see blue/green eggs. They are used to it now :) Yes, they will eat anything in their sight. Mine are a year old now. We were supposed to have all hens, but out of 20 chicks, 4 are roosters. They are hilarious to watch when they are free ranging.
Thanks for sharing!

So fun, we used to raise them all the time as kids. We would have up to 53 chickens at a time.
ReplyDeletehave fun!!!

This raising chickens thing seems to be a really popular thing lately+. You are the third person I know who is raising them. I take it you don't live in the city? You are like Martha Stewart who did a segment on her show about raising chickens. I can't remember but I think she ordered a hundred or so. Fascinating.
ReplyDeleteWill the eggs be for your family only??
Sounds like fun and definitely at this age they are adorable!!
Good luck with them.

I love the story of how they tip over and sleep. They are so cute.

I'm so jealous!! We decided to wait one more year for our chickens. We want to build a really nice coop first.

They are the sweetest chicks ever. I had little chicks and ducks when I grew up and I too named them. The sun was shinning here today and I was so happy to see it. Have a wnderful weekend my friend...m..
ReplyDeleteI want some chickens too. I'm afraid the dogs might like them a little too much. Mimi
ReplyDeleteHi Kathleen,
ReplyDeleteThese little sweeties are just too adorable! You're so lucky that you can have them in your yard. I love the idea about the picket fence.
Patricia :o)
So cute! And such good eggs they will lay. Hope you will let us see them again as they grow. And your garden. ~Adrienne~
ReplyDeletePeep! They are sooo cute! My neighbor has what seems like 100 of them but probably more like 50+. She lets hers run free. I love to stop and look at them when they are close to the road. I can't help but to roll down the window and say "Chick, chick, chick". hehehe I know my neighbor thinks I'm nuts! hahaha My husband doesn't want to get any farm animals. I wouldn't mind a few but I don't know what I would do about them when we go on vacation.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing those cute pictures!
Hugs,
Angela

I really want to throw a huge tantrum, first of all because I don't get to see the chicks, and second, because when I was little, you didn't let me name them :(. But I won't throw a tantrum, because I love you. :) xoxoxoxo
