Spring

Spring has sprung! We have fairly consistent highs in the 40's now, and while that may seem wintery to those of you in warmer climates, it is heavenly here in Michigan after a winter of consistent temps considerably below zero. I have been outside without my coat and it makes me so happy! I am slowly adding bits of green and spring to the house.  I found some silk flowers left over from wedding decorations last summer and took the arrangements apart to stuff into this old green vase.  You would think that after all that winter white that brighter colors would be what I was drawn to. But the white and green somehow say Spring to me.
I added this little mossy nest and twigs to the arrangement, along with a blue egg that I found in my stash of Spring decorations.  The lime and turquoise are so fresh together. I love it.
Although the sunshine and balmy 45 degree temps say spring, alas, the yard and garden are still quite desolate. Thank goodness for grocery store flowers.  The last remnants of some lilies reside in the basket next to the sink...along with the gingerbread boy soap dispenser that holds the dish soap. Hmmmm, it may be time to look for a different dispenser? You have to admit though, the little guy looks so happy.
I have begun Bible journaling.  I had a group of ladies over to my house a couple weeks ago to show them what I have learned and just as fun time together.  It was great to get to know them better and I am finding that journaling really slows me down in my study of the Bible.  It gives me the opportunity to really think about the verse and as I illustrate it, it is easier for me to remember. You can check out my Pinterest Bible journaling board here.
I found most of the goodies that I used at Michaels and Joann Fabrics for 50 cents to a dollar each.  It doesn't have to be expensive.  The watercolor set was about $5 and I love the colors. A lot of the washi tape was 2 in a pack at Joann's on sale for 50 cents a pack.  It's the first time I have used any and I can see how some of you have started a collection! I have done so much of my design work on the computer I started to feel that I was losing my skills in hand lettering and drawing, this gets me back to that and gives me some practice that I was sorely missing.
So there you have it. I'm back.  I know, it had been a while, and I am still working on a giveaway to celebrate 8 years of blogging. I'll be getting that posted soon.  What does Spring hold for you? Feeling overwhelmed? (I admit, I am a little, with spring cleaning, etsy, and so many other things and a certain lack of get up and go.) Are you planning a garden? So tell me, what are your Spring plans?

  1. Kathy! How nice to see a post from you here! I may have to steal that idea of the branches holding the nest. LOVE it! I am a tad overwhelmed myself. I have been sick off and on all winter---just crazy---so I am way behind the 8 ball here. xo Diana

  2. Well when it gets out of the 20s, it will be easier to think spring thoughts. I am very happy to read that things are looking up in your corner. They are certainly looking cheerful and bright on the inside. Off to see more of your journaling.

  5. Kathy, lovely to see you. Your flowers are so Spring like, and the nest is charming.
Spring is here in England too. Daffodils and crocus are everywhere and there is the beginning of blossom on the trees, at last!

  6. Your flowers with the sweet nest looks so cute! It is rainy here today but we have had temps in the 70's for a few days. The daffodils are coming, the forsythia is blooming at lower levels - here on the mountain top not quite yet, and off the mountain today I saw baby buds on a weeping cherry tree!

  11. I love the way Spring has arrived at your house. I need to get busy and bring some Springtime into my home! Life gets busy and that's the last thing I think of when I have a chance to catch my breath. We've been blessed with a mild winter - although we do face water shortages this summer because there isn't enough snow pack in the mountains. Our temps are in the high 50's and 60's most days now and working outside seems to call us to come and work more and more each week. There are beautiful Spring blooms showing around town. It's a favorite time of year for me - but, then, I love every season here in Oregon.

  12. Your watercolor paintings in the bible journal are awesome...you really have some great artistic creativity. You and the ladies must be having a fun and rewarding time together.

I love your "greening up" of the house. I'm very slow at bringing spring things up from my "hoarding room" downstairs. I'm missing the creative ideas...I look at baskets and trays and nests and I can't picture how I want things. I think my mind is so full.

I had to laugh about the bunnies. From the comments, we aren't the only ones who fell for them. And just tonight, hubby and I were talking about Emily's parrot that she left with us, as she and her hubby thought it was just a big mess maker. Ha! I was going to donate it to the pet store...they go for a couple hundred dollars and I don't want a cent! But hubby sort of likes the critter, they "talk", Ugh. Now if he would just feed it and clean the cage!!!

Have a great week, dear friend!

  15. Hi Kathy Just catching up on some of my favorite bloggging friends before I go to church. I've started doing the bible journaling too and am also enjoying it. Just as you said I find it slows me down and makes me think about verses more. Happy Easter hugs, Rhondi
