We're back. It was great to get away, but now the great race begins. Taking youngest daughter back to college on Labor day, tonight Earl and I begin a new semester and tomorrow I begin kitchen prep for my job as a school lunch lady. This weekend I will be at my mom's for a quick visit. I suddenly have so much to share with you that I should have no trouble posting for a few weeks.
First of all, I got my grades for my last semester, don't ask me how, but I ended up with a B+ and an A. I seriously thought I had done so poorly on my finals that C would be a miracle. I laughed out loud when I saw the grades. Still on the Deans list:>)
We are still working on the buffet we found by the side of the road. That sounds good doesn't it?
Earl stripped the top, sanded and filled a few very small holes and is in the process of putting on layers of shellac, then we will paint the bottom. I can't wait to show you because I think it's going to be gorgeous.
Today is back to school shopping with the daughters, maybe lunch out and a garage sale or two. I've hit the ground running it would seem, but the time away was just what we needed.
A HUGE thank you to all who gave suggestions for things to do while we were away! Did you know that a lot of things are closed on Mondays there? Hmmm, we didn't either but we managed.
The images above are from our stay. We had a wonderful time at The Country Victorian B&B. A beautiful room, thick towels, fantastic breakfasts (one of which I will share in a seperate post!) and a warm and friendly hostess. I ♥ B&B's.
We also spent time at the Shipshewana Flea Market, just a note, it seemed to be mostly aisles and aisles of dollar store junk from China. (Don't waste your time.) We also took in the art museum at Notre Dame University, (worthy of a couple hours), some antique stores and, of course the fabric shops, where I indulged myself with a few little goodies:>)
I won't bore you with more details, but we had a good time and came away refreshed.

We don't have a lot planned for Labor Day weekend, but I bet you have fun plans for celebrating the last week of summer. So, what are you doing on your long weekend? I would love to hear!
Congratulations on those grades!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you ended up having a good time away. Funny, a lot of things are closed here on Mondays too.
I don't think that is an Amish thing...probably just a coincidence.
Becky K.
Congrats on those wonderful grades!
ReplyDeleteSounds like your time away was just what you needed. This weekend our neighbors from our old farmhouse in TN are coming for the weekend. They usually come every Labor Day weekend. We will probably go hiking, we are having a picnic at the last of the free summer bluegrass concerts downtown and we will be enjoying some cooler weather!
Hugs,
Penny
Hubs is dragging me camping again, sugar!! I'd rather be home sleeping in my wonderfully soft bed with my pillow and blankie but he insists once again. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your next semester, chick; you can do this!
xoxo,
Connie
Woohoo!!!! So happy about the wonderful grades. Looking forward to all the great posts about your little get away. No big plans here for the holiday weekend, the weather is predicted to really cool down...YES!! I am so ready for Fall.
ReplyDeleteHave a calm weekend.

Sounds great and love your photos!
ReplyDeleteI'm tickled about your grades :)
Can't wait to see what you'll do with the fabric!
I have always wanted to stay at a B&B...maybE will get to one day!
ReplyDeleteI hate those flea markets that only have junky junk from China...I want real junk...old junk!! Old used stuff not new packaged in plastic junk that looks like it should some out of a bubble gum machine!!
Congrats on the good grades!!
Woo Hoo! Congrats on your grades! Glad you had a great weekend. That green B & B looks about the same color as our home. I love it!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Dawn
Congratulations on the great grades Kathy! Stop underestimating yourself girl! :-)
ReplyDeleteLoved the pictures and that B&B looks beautiful, did you get any inside pics?
We are doing the Peach Festival all weekend!
Hugz, Dolly
Yay for you on your grade!!! :o) Way to go! :o)
ReplyDeleteYour little get a way looks just fabulous. What a special time. :o) I can hardly wait to see your buffet and posts about all the great fun you have been having. :o)
So far, no real plans for this weekend. The kids have actually been in school for a few weeks, around here, so we had our big end of summer who-raw, already. :o)
I noticed your Etsy shop is stocked! Too cute! :o)
I hope you are having a wonderful day.
Sincerely ~ Trish
Hooray for you and those terrific grades!! Be proud!!
ReplyDeleteI'm happy to hear you had fun in Shipshewana. My husband goers there every summer for the great prices on boat rope. I agree with you that there is a lot of 'junk'...but it's fun to visit the first time.
Have a wonderful holiday weekend!!
xoxo
Jane
Great job on remaining on the dean's list!
ReplyDeleteI see from your pics that you went to Bonneyville Mill. Beautiful, peaceful place, isn't it? Aren't the dahlias gorgeous?
I don't remember how many years it has been since we've gone to the flea market. Too bad it has gotten more of the cheap junk now-it had plenty before-which is probably why we don't care if we make it there or not.
Glad you enjoyed your time away. Sorry you have to be back to work (and school) already...but hey, at least you never have to repeat that html class, right?
Almost forgot! Weekend plans? Work, work, work around the house. Still not ready to start school next week, either. Looking forward to our Shipshewana getaway later in the month.
Congrats on the grades! I knew you could do it! I clearly need to spend more time in Shipsie, I haven't seen that bed and breakfast, it look adorable. I feel the same way about the flea market, such a disappointment. So glad you had a good time!
ReplyDeleteI'm joining in with all the others ~ congratulations on the GOOD grades. You can be proud of yourself. I'll be anxious to see the fabrics (in finished projects of course). Glad your outing was just what you needed. It does us all good to get away with our special someone. Weekend plans is a picnic with extended family.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on those great grades! And sounds like you had a nice trip.
ReplyDeleteI will be having a good weekend watching the grandkids!
O, it sounds like ya'll had such a good time. You know, I have NEVER stayed in a B&B in my whole life. OMGosh, I better add that to my Bucket List..:)
ReplyDeleteWe always go on a wonderful bird hunt on Labor Day weekend with our family. This year, Mr. Sweet is making a netting machine for a friend that has a vineyard so we will be staying home. HOWEVER...Deeds is going to be with us for 3 whole days while her family go to a lake. Deeds is getting tired of it and she can't do all the things like wakeboarding and such so...she is staying with us. There's a football game she wants to go to and a friend's birthday party. We'll have a great time....:)
Congratulations on your wonderful grades, you smart lady, you. I am so proud of you and Earl...so ya'll give each other a hug for me...:)
It's always nice to get away and return feeling refreshed. And congratulations on your grades! I'll bet that smile hasn't left your face for even a second! ::Jill
ReplyDeleteWelcome Back Kathy! SO happy about your grades...awesome! Congrats on the Dean's List! Love the photo montage of your getaway - I heart B&B's too...it's the only way to go! Glad your batteries were recharged and you are ready to roll! I'm afraid Labor Day will be much like any other Monday for me - Johnny will get double time and a half for working, so I'll just be here creating...
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful, safe holiday weekend friend!
Hugs & Blessings,
Becky
Kathy,
ReplyDeleteFrom the photographs it looks like a lovely place to have been. The B & B that you stayed in looks so charming. It's always nice to get a change of scenery.
Well, have a lovely weekend. We are expecting Earl tomorrow, not your hubby the Hurricane Earl. It's heading our way here in the Boston area. Glad I am not on the Cape.
Have a safe trip taking your daughter back to school, and have a lovely weekend.
Karen
So fun! Just what you needed after a busy summer. A little time to reconnect. Great grades! You go girl! Mimi

ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the great grades, Kathy! I had a feeling it might turn out in a good way for you. Give yourself a big pat on the back!
ReplyDeleteYour get away with Earl looked lovely, and it sounds like you found plenty to do.
We had a nice weekend with two sons home, a barbecue birthday party for one of them, and a house full of sleep overs from their young bunch. It was fun! And then I was exhausted! LOL
Sounds like a perfect time away! Don't those days just whoosh on by?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the grades, smarty britches! I knew you would ACE things!
