Roadside shopping

You have to love roadside shopping.
There you are, driving along, minding your own business...

When all of a sudden you see a sign. "Free."

So meet my "new" buffet. Book matched, dovetailed, solid oak drawers that slide like buttah!  Two of the original pulls were in the top drawer. Don't ask me what the owners were thinking with the monstrosities they replaced them with on the second drawer. It needs a little work.
I'm thinking creamy white on the bottom with a little antiquing to bring out the detail, and a beautiful dark stained top. Yes sis, I know what you're thinking. I'm painting it because it has some missing trim that just can't be fixed to match the existing trim, so paint it is. I think it will bring out the carved details nicely.
This little marble topped plant stand was right next to it, so I got greedy and took that too.
I want to work on the buffet this weekend, the sooner the better before things get really crazy again with school. You can be sure I will be showing the finished project:>)
*sigh* I love roadside shopping:>)

  6. Wow, I'd be driving by that house every few days, they obviously don't know a good thing when they have it! Who knows what else they may throw out! I'm so glad you were able to grab it right then.

Your quilt is going to be wonderful too.

  20. Oh my goodness! You hit the roadside lottery!!! That is a gorgeous piece of furniture and I love the plant stand too! As the old saying goes, one man's junk is another man's treasure! Can't wait to see what you do with it!

  21. Seriously, not on the side of the road. What are people thinking? Great find.

  22. I laughed out loud at "Yes, sis, I know what you're thinking." I give you my blessing to paint this one. LOL

I especially love the detailing along the bottom. Gorgeous!

The plant stand is identical to one Grandma Lois gave us, that I've since gotten rid of. Maybe you've recovered a family treasure! I kept the finial screwed underneath because I thought it was weird sticking up like that. Does that show my complete lack of taste/decorating talent? Break it to me gently, ok?

  23. How in the world did you et that thing home...Ofcourse if I saw it and it was free I would have dragged it along behind the car...I love the "wave" detail...it could be turned into something beachy looking...maybe painted a robins egg blue...oh don't mind me....I'm just dreaming of my beach house...that I don't have! Have a great weekend...

  33. I love "roadside shopping" too! Just the other day my husband (God love him!) stopped and picked up a corner table someone had curbside! It was a little worn for the wear, but that was easily disguised with a coat of paint. It looks fantastic and only cost me a little time and some second-hand paint. It's true what they say...One man's trash is another person's treasure! Love the post! Love the Blog! You inspire me!
