I was a bad girl. I have had sinus problems for a week and finally went to the doctor. She thought I had a sinus infection and gave me some meds. Yay, but I was bad because I felt crummy so I skipped church tonight. It was cool and rainy today and you know how that makes sinus problems just seem worse. I was hanging out at home and decided I needed the smell of warm cinnamon pumpkin bread. It was a baking kind of night and the comfort of the warmth and the smell of cinnamon and pumpkin was irresistable. So I got out the trusty Betty Crocker cookbook, copyright 1969, and made the pumpkin bread. Except, instead of cinnamon and nutmeg I used some chai spice blend from the clearance rack at Meijer. And instead of nuts and raisins I added chocolate chips and craisins...I had three slices. My husband called me a temptress and had three slices. My daughter called me amazing and I don't know how many slices she had. But it was worth staying home from church to be called amazing and a temptress...don't you think:>) I hope you can read this, sorry it isn't real clear.
Hey ladies, head over to Shell In Your Pocket where Sandy is having a really great give-away. You're going to love it:>)
I have my moms BC cookbook. You make this look soooo good! Laurie
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean about sinus problems! I've been sniffling and sneezing and not able to breathe!! Then, on top of that, I had a Dentist appt to re-check what he did 2 weeks ago...and guess what? He decided to numb me up and tackle 2 more spots today! Up until a short time ago...I was in soooo much pain...and sneezing, too!
ReplyDeleteYour pumpkin bread sounds delicious! I have my BC cookbook from 1961. No pumpkin bread recipe...but Pumpkin Muffin recipe, sounds close!!!
~Blessings,
Jan
Oh, that looks and sounds amazing! I can almost smell it from here! I agree with your hubby, you are a temptress... now I will have to make one myself:-)
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling better.
Rhonda
I am sorry that you have been feeling sick. I always seem to get sick this time of year, I think it's all the leaves and the mold that contribute to sinus problems. Pumpkin bread is always a good idea. Thank you for the recipe. My doctor always suggests that we use a sinus spray that helps clean the infection. Feel better.

I always hate it when drainy people come to church anyway!
ReplyDeleteYou did the right thing Mrs. Temptress! You made your family happy too :)
I hope the medicine kicks in and you feel better soon! My daughter is prone to sinus infections so I know how they can be.
ReplyDeleteI love anything pumpkin! I'm collecting pumpkin recipes so I can try something different this year. The chai spice sounds like would be sooo good! I'm guessing it's chai tea spice? I always add fresh cranberries to mine (I keep them in the freezer) and I love that tart taste with sweetnest of the bread.
Hope you feel better soon!
Manuela
bread looks great!!
ReplyDeletei knew this morning it was raining before i was even out of bed- i woke up with a stuffy nose.
i copied the recipe. i want to try it with the chips instead of nust too. :)
I love pumpkin bread!
ReplyDeleteWe have been dealing with sinus issues as well - seasonal allergies though...
Baking is a comfort thing to me, and I especially like the nesting feeling I get when I bake for my family.
I love the smell of pumpkin bread straight of the oven...I think I do some baking today! Hsve a good one....sue
ReplyDeleteKathy,
ReplyDeleteSo sorry you're not feeling well. My son gets a lot of sinus infections, and it is no fun at all! The pumpkin bread sounds heavenly, though. And I love the idea of chocolate chips and craisins -- wow!
Feel better soon!
xoxo,
Mary
OHHH Kathy!!!! Pumpkin bread is my absolute FAVORITE thing!!! Thank you so much for sharing the recipe! I just bought pumpkin donuts last nught. So good!!
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you are sick :( I know how you feel!
Love ya,
Amy
The chai is a great idea!
ReplyDeleteAnd how nice to be called a 'temptress'!
Oh that sounds YUMMY! I have that cookbook, so I'm gonna look it up and use your substitutions! Raisins are good, but chocolate is BETTER!
ReplyDeleteNo, I didn't really throw Jack's shirts away!! The worst I would ever do is toss them in the remnant basket for use in rag crochet or quilts, but in this case, I actually DID HIS IRONING yesterday. That being such a rare occurrence, he never thought to look in his closet.
:-))))
Hope your schnoz is feeling better today after all those wonderful aromas and tastes!
Ronda
Hi Kathy,
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad that you had a lovely visit with your daughter. :) My ol' faithful 'go-to' cookbook is circa 1970 but it's from Pillsbury. I love it. Just simple, lovely recipes. Your bread sounds de-lish!
xoxo~
Abbie
I just had to pop over to your blog when I saw a link including a photo of my favorite BC cookbook! I'm still using that cookbook after all these years...and mine is circa 1969 as well. Love it!
ReplyDeleteI'll have a piece of that cake and the cup of coffee also. :0) :0)
ReplyDeleteYummy...I love a great bread!!!
ReplyDelete-Sandy Toes
I have that very same cookbook! Hope you feel better.
ReplyDeleteOoooooo.... you have my cook book! My sister gave it to me when I got married, the first time, in 1969. I still have it and I use it often. Its a bit tattered and I ALWAYS write notes in my cook books. I've made the same recipe so I know its good.

Kathy,
ReplyDeleteThere's nothing like something fresh from the oven to perk up your spirits and your ills. Besides that bread looks yummy.
Gretchen
Although I love the Fall it is a killer on the sinuses .... for me it's leaf mold! Hope you are on the mend now.
ReplyDeleteWhat nice compliments. Good medicine, me thinks!
:-) Rosie
I hope you're feeling better.
ReplyDeleteAnd, you certainly are tempting me. Did you save each of us a slice? That would require a lot of baking. ;-)
Sounds so good! And I agree it was worth staying home to get all of those wonderful compliments from you loved ones:-)
ReplyDeleteHope you have a wonderful weekend,
Michelle
Hi Kathy!
ReplyDeleteI just dropped in to see how you're doing. You have inspired me to make pumpkin bread tonight! (But I'm going to have to do it the easy way: Go to the shelf, get the box)
Blessings!
Patricia :o)

ReplyDeleteSounds yummy....
ReplyDeleteI love the old cookbooks but I love your changes too!
BC is always the "go to" for yummy recipes. My family would have starved to death years ago w/out her help.
ReplyDeleteCraisins and choc chips, huh? Sounds intriguing. I have 3 pumpkins waiting to be made into something.
Hi mom! please add this to the list of things to make for me when I come home in November! I seriously miss you and daddy's food! I love you! xoxoxoxo
ReplyDeleteNothing brings your spirit up than some rest and a savory loaf of homemade pumpkin bread. I hope you are feeling better, Kathy!
