Make Lemonade! Or lampshades:>) Am I going to let a little set back keep me from doing fun things? Well, of course not! Using a shade and fabric and trim I already had I redid this lampshade for the bedroom. Cost..$0. I felt like I needed a touch of black in this room to spark up the pinkish roses. Doesn't every room need a little black?
Being the toile fiend that I am, finding some toile in my stash was no problem, I had the black seam binding too. It isn't perfect but it is beautiful. I can see why people love to do this now. I was a little nervous because I had never done it before, but it was easy peasy. I love it!
Finding pink in my house isn't easy, I am a lover of all things red. Not burgundy, not rose...red! So when BJ at Sweet Nothingschallenged us to post something pink every day in October for breast cancer awareness, it was with a little trepidation that I said I would join her. My sweetheart found a set of these little pressed glass heart shaped dishes at a yard sale this past summer and brought them home for me. I use them by the bedside and one at each sink for my rings. This time, I found some vintage beaded earrings to toss into the dish. Just for BJ and breast cancer awareness. Don't forget your mamogram! A friend of mine at work was just diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer. How did they find it? At her yearly mammogram. Fortunately they found it early and it is very treatable. That is the key isn't it? Finding it early? Sigh, I know, I hate them too, but I am going. How about you?

As a 3 year breast cancer survivor let me tell you -- mammograms do make the difference. My cancer could not be felt by a bse -- it was detected by a mammogram. But remember...a mammogram doesn't always catch it which is why a bse is so important every month -- no matter what!! First day after your period stops if you are still having periods and 1st day of every month if you are menopausal.
And early detection makes all the difference in the world!

You did such a great job with this lampshade. I wish I could do it to my shades for my chandelier in the dining room. You are so clever. That pink glass heart dish is such a nice touch. When you see me creating up a storm, you will know that I am smack in the middle of adversity. My way of coping in life is to create my way out of it. You know, I think it's a bit like lamaze breathing, just keep creating while God gives birth to something new! Karen
THat lampshade looks fabulous! Not only are you super creative, but you are resourceful as well! Crafting is such a great stress reliever when times are tough! Good for you for doing something positive with your time! What a special person you must be!!!
I thought of Manuela when I saw this post! Of course she's already been here :) I did skip my mammogram doing all that MS stuff... I forgot to thank you for the sweet things you tossed in with my GORGEOUS earrings! I cannot wait to wear them. I'm going to pretend like I'm Princess Diana :)

Looking back a few posts I see those blue/rhinestones earrings but I don't see them in your Etsy. Some savy shopper probably snapped them up but I thought I'd ask just in case.

I should be joining you in doing a pink post every day as my sister is in the midst of fighting breast cancer. She is going through her first round of chemo right now. She still has a second round of chemo to go and then the radiation. She has a long road ahead of her but she has a wonderful attitude.
I've been so busy these last few days gathering up clothing to take on this FABULOUS CRUISE (check my countdown!) that I've not been on the computer very much. This lampshade is just fabulous..just like everything else you do ! I have one I need to work on and maybe I'll do it when I get back home. Thanks for posting PINK...ROSIE is the one I took the challange from...my best friend fought breast cancer for several years and is now cancer free. It was found thru a mammogram, too. love ya, bj
Lamp shade looks great! My hubby laughs at me every time I bring a lomp home from the thrift stores. I like to rewire and refurbish lamps, use them for a while and then change them out. Some shades I recover, some not. I think I like to buy lamps is because years ago, I could hardly afford a decorative lamp. Who knew I could get them at the thrift store for just a few dollars?
