Monday morning

I woke up to darkness that has turned into a fine, sunny, golden morning.  The garden calls and I follow because I won't have many more golden mornings in the garden with flowers left.  We have already had a frost that stole some of summers beauty away and left wilted ruin behind.  Two years ago Earl bought me a sweet autumn clematis for the pergola that he built.  This year it reached the top and is in full bloom.  Hundreds of tiny white flowers hang down and the air has a light sweet scent by the back door. It is so beautiful, I enjoy it every day:>)

The roses won't be around much longer. I have already cut bunches of rose hips from one of my bushes and used them in a creamware pitcher as a natural autumn display.  There are masses of wild rose hips in the woods and I am contemplating going back and gathering enough for a wreath.  It's hazardous duty though and I may just decide they look better where they are! The garden markers behind this rose came from my sweet sis-in-law. I didn't plant the vegetables that are represented on these markers but they were so pretty and rustic that I thought they made a beautiful bouquet in a pot in my garden.

My favorite iceberg rose gets little pink speckles on it in cooler weather. I love that they last to the very end. It still has buds and is very hardy in light frosts.  I guess it is time to clean up the beds and maybe tuck a few bulbs in for spring.

I hate to see the end of my beautiful garden but it makes it all the sweeter and more anticipated next spring. What is your favorite bulb to plant for a spectacular spring show?

  2. Hi Cathy, what a lovely garden you have, love the clematis and roses! Ours is going fast - we had about 2inches of SNOW the last two days, and temps down in the 20's! But the sun is out this morning, I'm checking on the computer, and I have my coffee, what could be better! Have a great week,
    xoxo

  3. A beautiful garden...and I'm so taken that your clematis and roses still have blooms!! Mine did until about a week ago and now the garden looks "done". I've started adding some mums and creating a fall look..there is nothing so sad as a wilted out garden.

  8. Oh no, a frost already! Your remaining flowers are pretty! I have a climbing Iceberg but no flowers for a few months now. The wild rose hip wreath sounds interesting! Oh go for it (as long as you don't have to wade through poison ivy)!

  11. Everything that you have still blooming is lovely, Kathy! I paid close attention to my planting of my English garden so I would have a long blooming season and I still have a second round of foxglove, a clematis and some lilies.

Funny how little things like these ease the goodbye. And soon it will be hello to mums!

  13. Your clematis is beautiful!! A couple of mine are really growing right now!!! I planted them in the spring & they haven't done too much until the last month! It's such a bummer to know that pretty soon I'll have to cut everything back also! But I think I need the winter to get the energy up for spring & next years gardening! Love your blog....
