Something Sweet

I feel like lately I am running to keep up with my posting. Playing catch up.  Case in point, this post.  Back in February Earl tapped the Maple trees in the woods and made the most delectable Maple Syrup. Enough to share a jar with each of the girls and then hoard the rest for ourselves.  Why is it that food you make or grow yourself just tastes better than what you buy? Is it my imagination? Maybe. But there is something so satisfying in making something yourself.  He got a late start so we are hoping to get even more sap next year.
He also made this lemon curd cheese cake for Easter dessert. One might wonder just what is keeping me so busy that I can't post since Earl is clearly doing all the work around here. I wonder myself sometimes, and yet, something clearly is deterring me.  Forgive the grainy photo, I snapped this with my phone in low light. It tasted so much better than this photo looks.
Another sweet thing? This pretty tablecloth my youngest picked up for me just because she knew I would like it.  The sweetness of that is even greater than Maple syrup or cheesecake.  It makes this mama's heart all warm and happy when my girls do things like that.  They so deserve those jars of Maple Syrup!
We had a very small guest list for Easter this year. We usually have 14 or more around this table, but times are changing. We have to share the girls with in-laws :( My eldest is far away and couldn't make it, Grandma had to run to Arizona for the death of her brother in law, and we had to share his youngest sister with her in-laws. (There are times I think in-laws should be called out-laws...but then that would bounce back on me wouldn't it? *sigh)

So, we hosted Earl's youngest sister and Uncle. It was a small party, but still very good.  It's just hard to roll with the changes sometimes. I missed my kids.  I hope you all had good times with family and friends for the holiday.

Are you taking the bunnies and Easter decor down now? What is going in it's place?

  1. I've seen people tapping their maple trees. We have some maples, but haven't tried to tap them. I think home made syrup is the best! Beautiful table cloth!!! The lemon treats looks very good to me :)
I bought the pillow today, so my new pillow is very happy in my living room. I'll take a photo when the sun comes out! THANK YOU SO MUCH! I really LOVE IT!

  5. Fresh maple syrup!! Yummy! That dessert looks wonderful too. I don't decorate for Easter, but I do for spring. So I still have tulips and nest about the house.

  6. Our Easter was very strange this year, too..both sick and wouldn't let anyone in the house for fear of making them sick, too. We still had a fair Easter and have been able to be with family since...so all is good in my world again.
The syrup looks so amazing and I agree that things we make are MUCHO better than what we buy...Love that pretty tablecloth, too. xoxo

  7. Outlaws...my father always called his inlaws "outlaws." Yes, it does boomerang right back. I rather admire the families who combine the whole lot and roll with it. One needs a very big home for that, though. The cake looks yummy, the tablecloth is a sweet gift, and I am sure that your sister-in-law was blessed to be in your home. I gave my sister-in-law a small loaf of Easter bread and today she thanked me for the "dinky, little loaf." I think it could be the last loaf she ever gets. LOL

    1. I admire the families who all join together, also. That is the way it should be unless there isn't enough room! That's what kid's tables are for, I guess.

  8. I am a new blogger friend of Garage Sale Gal, so popped over to see you lovely blog. She sure won a great gift! My youngest and her hubby couldn't make it to our Easter this year. I have 2 married daughters. I know how you feel, but we just roll with it all, heh? Happy Spring.

  9. You can adopt me, because I'd love some of that Maple syrup. Just ignore my wrinkles, because I'm WAY past the adoptable age...
