How to Pass Down your Family's Favorite Recipes

Well here it is the first day of summer and I'm looking forward to Christmas already. The best gifts take some planning, and time to put together. Along with that, we have young friends graduating from high school and college, getting married and beginning their lives together. How do you send them off with all their favorite recipes at their fingertips?  Put them in a book. Their own copy of all the great family recipes that they know and love. The ones that mean home and comfort as they forge their new lives as adults. Send them off with the best cookbook they will ever have. Yours.
I am working on a cookbook of all our favorites for family and friends for Christmas this year. (shhhhh, don't tell)
It's easy to make your own Blurb cookbook and very affordable.  Most gifts are forgotten almost as soon as the wrapping is off. Can you remember who gave you what last year? But a gift like this is a keepsake.
Blurb's program is super easy, editable to fit what you need and such a beautiful way to keep those family recipes in one place.  Maybe do a small edition each year, or put it all in one grand book. Use the link at the top of my sidebar and the coupon code to get 15% off:>) Softcover books start at $12.99
Above is a screen shot of a page that I put together in about 5 minutes.
Copy, Paste, repeat. Add some fun family photos to make it really special.  Jot some notes in the margin before you give it. I promise it will be treasured far longer than that new scarf.
Are you thinking of Christmas yet?

(yes, I am a Blurb affiliate, but this is a product I really love and I think you might love it too!)

  1. My husband said just this morning that it's just 6 months til the Christmas season. A recipe book is a great idea! And there's no time like now to start.

  5. Hi Kathy. :o)
This is a fantastic idea! I actually made a binder of our family recipes for Katie's first Christmas away from home. Each recipe was handwritten and then placed in a page protector. :o) The fun thing ... she is making recipe pages for me now. :o)
I am totally thinking about Christmas and stumped as to what to do! :o)

  7. This is a mighty nice gift!
So thoughtful and I love that it has photos involved.
Gooseberry Patch asked me to submit a recipe for their next book which is called something like Family Favorites...they have published my recipes twice and sent me a free cookbook each time. Kinda neat. Not really LOL. :D
By the way...once again, I am NOT able to get into my blissity email...so only write me at pcovington270@bellsouth.net ...also I see that I have sent out weird mail on Twitter...that wasn't me. I feel rather out of control on the web lately.
How is your ankle?! I twisted mine years ago and absolutely thought it would never heal (it did) but it woke me in the night throbbing at least a year later, maybe two. I hope yours isn't that bad.
Long comment! Oh? you didn't notice?

  11. I created a cookbook of my daughter's fave recipes when she married. All of the recipes were written by hand, but this looks so much better!

  13. Kathy this is a wonderful idea. My girls have been requesting recipes from their grammas.

When my mum passed I had them each pick their favorite recipe mum used and it is now what they have to make for every party.i am Trying to keep mums traditions going!

Our street put together a recipe book two years ago, it was so much fun and its the first book I grab when looking for something different to cook.
