Making Summer Last

I don't know about you, but this summer has flown by at record speed for me.  I can't even say I have done anything fascinating or been particularly busy.  I am starting to see so many who are over this hot summer and longing for fall, but as much as I love Autumn I hang on to the longer days of summer and the warmth with a tight grip.  We are making plans for a few weekends away and I shake my head as I realize I'm already filling my October calendar!

One way to make summer last is to make sure we don't miss out on any of those sights and sounds and beautiful things that only summer brings.  Like hitting the farmers market and taking in all those beautiful flowers.
Our youngest daughter went with us this weekend and I came away with this beautiful bouquet of flowers that she bought me.  $6 gets you some amazing deals at the farmers market, what do you think you would pay for these from a florist?  $50-$75?

After the farmer's market, we headed to a local orchard hoping to find some fresh peaches.  It's peach season and the ones I get from the grocery store never seem to ripen as well as they should. They go straight from green to mush.  We came away with this.
I'll be turning these into peach jam and peach pie this week!

How are you spending the last days of summer?

  1. Sweating when outside, then enjoying the cool as I hibernate in the air-conditioning. :-)

Beautiful bouquet, and luscious and delicious looking peaches.

  2. I am still heading to the produce stands and farmers market. Grilling outside as much as possible. I don't want summer to end, though I wouldn't mind it being a little cooler - say mid 80's instead of high 90's.

  4. Your flowers are beautiful! Our farmer's market is small and they never have flowers. I'd love it if they did.

I'm not in a hurry for autumn either but summer here is really hot at this point. It's nice for a little relief. :)

  8. I love summer flowers and peaches! Two faves!

I am tired of the heat and humidity, but the weeks we've had that we weren't roasted and living in a sauna were so lovely. I enjoyed those weeks very much. Hopefully we'll get a break soon, but in the meantime, I'm enjoying peaches, and swimming and summer thunderstorms. All while pinning Autumn beauty on my Pinterest boards! :)

  9. Hmm, I was thinking of asking if you wanted to venture to the Mennonite store with me for peaches but I guess you already got yours. Oh, well, running up there is a good reason to stop and see how my inlaws are getting along so I guess I forgive you. ;-) I have some nice peach canning recipes if you want any-peach tomato salsa and peach melba freezer jam in particular.

  11. Somehow this post didn't show on my blog reader until now! I've been spending much of the last days of summer with my dear, little mother's needs and a day away here and there. Fall is arriving here in Oregon. Leaves are gently beginning to fall, temperatures have cooled, Autumn rains grace some of our days. I love this season!
