Earl and I took in a couple garage sales this afternoon. It was such a lovely day, so we jumped in the car and headed out. After hitting the sales that we were looking for, we followed an Estate sale sign down a long drive and found this. A gosh darn real "Estate"! This little cottage was on a sparkling lake, the gardens were full of sculpture. It was just plain amazing. If any of you live in a house like this please excuse my farmgirl awe of this kind of living. There were massive spiral staircases inside, an infinity pool out by the lake and they were serving appetizers for pity sake. At an estate sale. This was my first appetizer/estate sale.
I live a sheltered life.
Of course we went in.
I only got a couple photos because one of the estate sale guys started giving me the stink eye.
I was dying for the $500 crystal bowl on the $2500 table.
I was thinking this $6500 bone and ivory chinese warrior would make a lovely holder of towels in my bath, What think you? Hmmm, on the other hand I wouldn't want that grumpy face staring at me as I stepped out of the shower. It might give me a complex. And what exactly is he doing to his beard?
After we left, we headed for our kind of shopping. Salvation Army, where I found a light blue sweater set for $1 and a pretty green linen blouse for $5. Earl got 4 shirts for $1 each. I looked to see if they had any Chinese soldier statues but they must have sold the last one before I got there.
Go figure.

Wow - the 'estates' around here usually involve barns and sheds. And certainly not appetizers! It looks like a beautiful home though.

An afternoon poking around sales and shops with Warren would be so much fun. We'll have to plan some fun time soon.

That's the problem with shopping an estate sale at a 'real' estate...it's like shopping an upscale boutique!! But thanks for taking the pictures...I would have been too intimidated!!

Wow! That's some estate sale! You cracked me up with the warrior guy...I wouldn't want to see that face when I get out of the shower either! Too bad Salvation Army was all sold out - haha!

haaahhha.a...what an adorable post. The closest I've come to having appetizers at a sale was a garage sale and the little girl had a lemonade and cookie stand set up...she was giving away more than she was selling.:)
Now, that is a beautiful house!! Wonder, at those prices, if they sold it all?

What great fun! I went to a home estate sale in my neighborhood and every room was full of stuff for sale! heck the hole house was for sale LOL.

I've never heard of an estate sale like the one you show here. It looks like museum quality pieces, and not in my price range either.
LOL! There's no accounting for taste is there? I would have been so excited to get into that home and explore but so dissapointed to get the stink eye! It sounds like you had much more fun at the thrift store!

I am so fickle when it comes to decorating..I don't usually fall for the fads much but I do love the words and numbers on things right now. Using the labels seemed a good way to go..can't afford to mess up 9 pretty, lined baskets. :))
Beautiful house, but ummm...definitely not my style (or price range) either! That Chinese warrior guy is just plain ugly, tacky, and scary looking!
I'd meet you at a resale shop anytime over those kinds of estate sales. But each to their own! ;-)
