A quick post before I head off to work. I haven't posted as often as I would like because I am still waiting for a media card for the camera. I lost the old one, ordered a new one from Amazon on Jan. 1, and didn't realize until a week later that the order had been cancelled because they were out of stock. So I had to reorder and it will be a week before it gets here because I chose free shipping (I'm cheap like that). Victoria thought I was all set and took her camera with her back to college.  I hate posting without something pretty to look at so I haven't posted. I'm improvising today.  So today I have a question to pose to you and an answer to some inquiries I have gotten. First, you may have noticed that there is a link to an advertising info page on my sidebar.  Now, in the past, I have been dead set against advertising. This is my space to do what I want with and I really didn't want to share it. I am not crazy about going to a blog and finding ads all over the place, but if it's a blog I really enjoy I go anyway. I mean, I understand the need to make a buck. Believe me, with a husband who is still looking for work and myself working part time, I understand. So now, I am willing to give it a try.  I have had some inquiries and decided to put up the advertising page. If someone wants to do it, great, if not, ok.  I am limiting the ads to 6 right now because I don't want my site plastered. I'm sticking a toe in the water, that's all. We'll see what happens. How do you feel about that? I would love to know, although I can't say it will change my mind. This is, after all, my baby.

I am having a huge problem with ads being placed in my comments section, I may have to turn on blog owner approval if it continues. I won't make you type in those awful codes.  It is a shame when someone hijacks a blog like that. I hope that you never reward it by clicking on the link.  In my opinion, anyone who leaves links to a business in a comment section is a jerk.  It shouldn't benefit them to advertise like that.

I also wanted to give you the link to the White Chocolate Peppermint popcorn you saw here.  I know that right now we are all on the diet bandwagon, but I had some people who wanted the recipe and I thought you might like to file it away for next Christmas...or whenever you have a bad diet day. So, if you want to visit my dear sis, she has the recipe posted here.   Go at your own risk though because this stuff is truely addictive.

Now I'm off to work.  I am working on a few things while I wait for my media card. I need to get some things listed in etsy and I am still working on a giveaway.  Ahhhh, I NEED that card, come on Amazon, don't let me down:>)

  1. I've been getting those ads in my comments too Kathy and I agree -- it's inappropriate. I had to go to comment moderation and blog approval for that reason. It's annoying but it's the only way to stop them from "getting in".

As for you offering ads on your site, I noticed that yesterday and had a look around. I think it's a great idea. I'd rather see ads on a blog for people's handmade work than something google thinks I might be interested in -- i.e. manufactured!!

My other thought and I hope you don't think I'm being too personal here is that in this economy and with how difficult last year was for you (and may continue to be for awhile), this is income for you. Is there anything wrong with that? No. It's good business sense. And believe me, people will still come to you -- it's you we love...everything else is just gravy!! ♥

  2. I hope everything works out for you with the advertising.
Maybe the card will get to you soon...hope so.

    Take care!

  3. What a fiasco that memory card has turned out to be! I was wondering if the cat ate it...

As for the advertising-I think many will see it as an added benefit, considering your standards for accepting ads. Unlike what shows up in my webmail sidebar, your ads should actually be for stuff I won't mind seeing.

  4. Ack! Hope the new card get's to you soon!

I noticed the ad for ads last time I was here. I don't have a problem with people making money off their blogs. I think it's a great idea for you to do so! I do have a problem with blogs that turn into just one big "sponsor" ad where post after post is nothing but giveaways from "sponsors" or posts about "sponsors". That turns me off.

I say go for it and see if you think it's worth it. It can't hurt to try!

  5. Don't ya just hate it when that happens with Amazon or any place for that matter, sugar?! I shop mostly on line for things like that. Waaaaaay cheaper than the stores.

  6. I feel bad about your media card...I have never had problems ordering from Amazon so I hope they come through for you soon.

I didn't notice the ad thingy on your sidebar until now. I think it is what it is! Like you said, it's your baby. And I think if you can make some money, that is okay too, and shouldn't involve those coming to read your blog. Personally, I love your blog and I consider you a friend and one of the nicest people in Blogland, so I will come regardless of what is on your sidebar. :-)

    xoxo

  7. It's a worry isn't it? I've had a few offers too and am still thinking about it. A few extra bucks would be nice but how much extra work? AND like you say, it's my baby. How would it change the blog? Glad you brought it up. Mimi

  10. I am sorry to hear about the memory card mix up! I hope you get your new one soon.

As far as advertising goes...I sold advertising for a living for 25 years and know it is a fact of life. I will visit you with ads or no ads....

Magazines and newspapers are only able to publish via advertising. Subscriptions don't even begin to cover the cost. That is why so many magazines have gone under this past year. Advertisers have tightened they belts and only the BIG magazines get their dollars now.

  11. Hi girl! I would repeat just what Manuela said. Small ads on the side don't bother me. I have been approached also but don't want anything that causes me to spend more time with this blog. You see, my blog has become a terrible addiction. Spending too much time looking at all of them.

I am working this week answering phones in an office. It's easy and is paying me $10 per hour. Woo hoo!

  12. Darlin', I think whatever you need to do and want to do is A. OK !!
It doesn't bother me one little bit if you advertise on your blog.
Money is money and we need money to survive in this ole world. Some "survive" better than others and when we need to make a little money, we should feel free to do it..

I, too, am still having comment issues. Guess I'll think about Comment Approval, too. What a dang hassle!

Bill and I have started on the South Beach Diet and I have roasting veggies in the oven and am sooooo hungry..
    hugs, bj

  13. I don't see any ads....but I say go for it! It doesn't bother me one bit as a reader to see ads on blogs!

  14. Ads haven't bothered me until lately. One of my favorite blogs is getting so advertising heavy that I'm ready to avoid it. I don't like the give-aways that have you visiting here, there, and yon either to see advertising. I think you'll have to monitor it closely to maintain the integrity of your blog.

  17. Hi Kathy,
My sister Lynne mentioned advertising on my blog to me just yesterday. I said that I didn't know how that worked, but that I would look into it. I turned on comment approval to delete those unwanted comments before they were published.

I hope that your card comes soon sot hat you can post your new creations on etsy.

  18. Hi Kathy, I hope the ads work out for you, they won't bother me. Maybe they'll lead us to some fabulous new things. Like the others said, it's not a problem unless it's so cluttered with ads we can't find YOU in it!

Here's how I handle the spam or mean comments. All the comments come into my email which I check at least once or a million times a day. I have comment moderation set for posts older than 3 days for a double layer of protection. I delete or reject any comments that are not appropriate.

This way I won't miss any comments, good or bad. I think everyone likes to double check their comments so they like to see them right away. I've found that the really bad links are usually added to really old posts.

I also think most of know not to click on those links but we certainly don't want some of that questionable content on there at all! That's where the comment moderation comes in handy, no one will ever see it.

Did my rambling make sense? Hope so. Have a nice weekend,
    Dawn

  20. Stopping in to say that David taught school for several years..AG..then realized that wasn't what he wanted to do all his life. He went to a trade school to learn to make custom cowboy boots, bought a small shop and did that for several years, He then went to another trade school and learned to make custom hats. His hat business far outpasses his custom boots. He has done very well with his hat business and it has grown over the years. He is also the owner of LITTLE GUYS MOVERS and it has far exceded his expectations. He also owns and operates a fairly large grape vineyard (I;'ve blogged about it). He just last month became a partner in yet a 4th business.
My little boy is very successful at things he does and it is because he loves and worships our Lord. In return, HE has been very good to David.
