I love the sweet faces painted on each one and it just seems so much more detailed than the sets you buy today. I don't know how old it is but I know I remember it from the 60's when I was little. I am quite sure it is older than that. I was so pleased to get Grandmothers nativity set when she passed away, because it always brings back sweet memories of her and the homey farmhouse she and grandpa lived in. I just wanted to share it with all of you. Earl and I have quite a few ornaments and things from grandparents and they are truly treasures. I will share some more when we decorate the tree!

What it's all about...
My husband is working on a little building to go with this set, but I couldn't wait to show you one of my most prized possessions. This nativity set belonged to my dear grandmother. She kept the holy family displayed year round, but brought out the rest for Christmas. I have always loved this set.

I went forever without a Nativity set because I couldn't decide any really captured the right feel...I found a really old set this summer for almost free...so I'm happy...but it has too many shepherds and not enough wisemen LOL.
ReplyDeleteYour sets are very sweet, especially since they came from her.
My heart is always warmed when I see a sweet nativity set. Your kitty Solace is such a pretty baby.

How happy you must be to have such a prized possession...I have had our nativity set since our children were little(that's many years ago!)and my children could play with them (carefully that is) and we would talk about Jesus and his birth, then later this was repeated with the grandchildren.
ReplyDeleteWonderful memories!
Very nice. Mour manger scene is one of my favorite things.

OM Gosh - that nativity is amazing. I have one that I adore, but I wish it had more pieces to it. I enjoyed visiting your blog. Can't wait to see more!

ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful Nativity Set, and you're right, there's much more detail than in newer ones. It's lovely that this was passed on to you - makes it even more precious!

Oh, these are a real treasure. I love to see things that are special to other people. That camel is so charmingly detailed. I can't wait to see the ornaments.
ReplyDeleteThat is such a pretty set. Then meaning behind it makes it much more special.

ReplyDeleteKathy, I think that is one of the prettiest nativity sets I have ever seen. And it is precious, knowing that it came from your grandparents.

ReplyDeleteWhat a special nativity set! It really is wonderful all on its own, but with its provenance, it has just that much more meaning. Do you display parts of it all year? Some years, when I really need to remind myself, I keep Jesus on top of the bread box as a way of saying that He is the bread of life. Yes, I have received strange looks. LOL!
ReplyDelete(That was my deletion above. You can't imagine how badly I bungled my comment!)
What a precious treasure your nativity set is! Not only is it truly beautiful, but to be a family heirloom with such vivid memories attached to it makes it priceless! I'm sure it will be a special part of many Christmases to come.
ReplyDeleteOh, what a beautiful Nativity set! I'm sure it must be so special to you, and to your children, too!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy your decorating, and your progressive dinner!
