In spite of an early start getting the Christmas decorations down from the attic, the unfortunate insertion of Earls foot through the dining room ceiling has kept me from doing anything really significant about decorating.  For one thing we had to completely empty the dining room so the plasterer could come and fix the hole. He is here today and he's Irish. Golly, I could listen to that accent all day (and actually I will be).  I'm baking fresh bread to thank the workers for speaking in my presence fixing the hole and working frantically on the quilts that I am making for the girls Christmas. Yes, three weeks before Christmas and I am still piecing the tops and praying that I can find someone with a long arm quilting machine who can get them quilted in time for Christmas morning! My goal is to have the tops finished end of the week at latest. All other projects, plans, and any invitations are on hold until they are finished. Earl is here with me to deal with the workmen so aside from baking bread, which is really just a few minutes mixing and baking, I am chained to the sewing machine today.  Wish me luck. Once the dining room ceiling is fixed we can get our Christmas tree and I can do a little decorating, but the season is rushing up on me and if I have to scale back on the decor to have a peaceful season I will.  In the meantime, I  need to get back to sewing and I hope you will join me tomorrow for Handmade Holidays.  Have a great Monday!

  5. Good Morning Kathy.
I am so sorry about your ceiling. I hope that your husband was not hurt. My husband did the same thing a few years back. It scared him a little bit, but it was the hole that we fixed that bugged him the most. :o) Bless his heart.
I can hardly wait to see your quilts. I hope that you will post them. :o)
I am looking so forward to Handmade Holidays! :o)
Enjoy your sewing! :o) What a blessing those quilts will be for your family. :o) I am sure they will cherish them. :o)

  7. Kathy~~~

This is the first post I am reading this morning and you have me chuckling (I hope Earl is okay). You have just described the whole scenario in such a funny way! lol! You are staying exceedingly calm though...I would be a wreck. I am already starting to feel that twinge of panic but as usual, I divert my attention to something totally other than what I should be doing, like this!

I wish you luck with the quilts. I KNOW you will finish them and your girls will be delighted. Bless you. And I am going to scale back too, as I sit and look at my naked tree that I cannot trim until DH gets home tonight and puts the lights on. No...I do not do lights!

  9. I love this photograph and i love your holiday banner (spread love -- wonderful!).

I'm laughing at this post -- you are so cute...and poor Earl, putting his foot through the ceiling (shades of Chevy Chase in National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation?!?! A little Clark Griswold in him??)...

Irishmen...my husband's father was from Ireland (Northern) and he had a lovely accent. My best friend lives in Belfast and I love listening to her speak...there is something about accents that can just make us so happy!!

  16. I am Irish, and believe me Irish accents don't sound like the Lucky Charm elves! :) But if he says anything in Gaelic , I'll translate for you,,but I only know the cuss words..LOL..
As for the ceiling oh yes, dh has done that too..
    Good luck with the quilts..

  17. Love the teacup with the acorns. It's surprising how often people break through the ceiling. My hubby did that in the entrance hall ceiling. It is quite a shock to hear the racket and turn around to see a leg hanging down through the ceiling. :-)

Hope you get your quilts done in time.

  19. I believe the proper word for your behavior is that you're truly "focused." And there's nothing wrong with that! I am loving that sweet quilt!
