This summer has been so hectic. Evening classes and different schedules have made it hard to sit down to dinner together most nights. Tonight Earl and I pulled the table over by the garden. He grilled sliced pork tenderloin and eggplant brushed with garlic, rosemary olive oil, and sprinkled with salt and pepper, while I sliced some bread and made fresh green beans. A big pitcher of iced tea and some candle light and we were set. What a pleasure to relax in the cool of the garden among the flowers and vegetables and have time for quiet converstion and a good meal!
My zinnias have been particularly spectacular this year and the phlox perfume the entire yard. We were serenaded by a little chickadee as we ate. Late evening picnics in the garden, I highly recommend them:>)
Oh sigh.... this sounds entirely lovely. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGORGEOUS! Love your pretty zinnias.
ReplyDeleteXO,
Sheila :-)
It sounds like the perfect evening with the one you love. I folded laundry on the line tonight with my honey, and surprisingly it was sweet together time. Many blessings to you both, and I hope you get to enjoy more evenings like this in the near future.
ReplyDeleteGod Bless,
Heather
Oh heavenly! What a refreshing time you both must have had together. And so special for a little chickadee to sing his beautiful song for you. Don't you just know that the Lord had His hand in that one. :o)
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely ~ Tricia

ReplyDeleteSounds heavenly. Zinnias! One of my favorites. Mimi
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful table! I just love zinnia and raised them for years, but last fall we moved to Arizona...
ReplyDeleteKathy, your flowers are just dyanmic! I think you are being rewarded with a good garden season for all the hard work you've been putting in on school, etc.
ReplyDeleteDoesn't 'cooking together' make meals more special. Your menu sounds delicious. I'm going to try Earl's way of grilling eggplant. Yum!
Grab the special moments where you can. I think of you so often!
Hugs,
Lallee
PS I'll add an addendum to my vacation post for where we stayed.
What a wonderful way to spend some quiet time together! We are working on our yard today and it seems we should have dinner in the garden this evening. Thanks for the inspiration! Your zinnias are gorgeous - think I need to add some to my garden, too.

This looks so yummy! You two are quite a pair. I don't seem to have luck with zinnias, though I love them.

And THAT I would say was a PERFECT evening!
ReplyDeleteYou made it so beautiful! I so admire that. I need to get better at that. My family makes a plate and goes to the couch! MUST WORK ON THAT!
I'd love to have an evening picnic in our garden but the mosquitoes would be picnicking on our flesh, so it wouldn't be much fun!! I lopve the thought of it though.
