Handmade Holidays

If you are one of my children look away now. I mean it......ok. I made good progress today and I am counting it toward my Handmade post because, well, it's handmade.  I had taken a personal day from work to be here for the plasterer and decided to really cram on getting these finished, or as close to finished as I could get.  I was so focused that I completely forgot that tonight was our Christmas dinner party at work until one of my co-workers called to remind me that we were car pooling.  At first I had absolutely no idea what she was talking about. Car pooling?  Oh yeah! dinner tonight, and I needed a shower and had just enought time to get ready.  Casting one last longing look at my project, because I was really into it you know? I showered and got ready, slipped some shoes on and ran out the door.  And now you are about to learn something about me that you didn't know.  When I am focused on something... I mean really focused, I don't pay attention to anything else.   I mean, sometimes I can't hear when people speak to me when my attention is elsewhere.

Which explains how I could get to the restaurant, and not notice that I was wearing two completely different shoes until I went to the ladies room and happened to look down at my feet.  Yeah. you would think I would notice one closed toe shoe and one open toe. At least they were the same color.  Kind of.

Sometimes I'm a little absent minded.  Sheesh.
Take my mind off this please. Share your handmade or thrifted holiday gift or decoration below.  And check your shoes, I've found it comes in handy sometimes.

  1. That's the BEST laugh I've had in a loooong time!! O, Kathy...I thought i was the only one that did that. When I am really into something, I don't hear the phone, people talking to me, I forget to check what is cooking in the oven..and once, when I was working, I got there one day and had a brown shoe on one foot..a black one on the other. Since I worked in an office, I just took my shoes off for the entire day!!
What IN THE WORLD did YOU do??
    haaaaa...aaahhhhaaaa so so funny.

NOW..I had NO idea you were doing a pinwheel quilt. I thought you were doing a plain and simple 9 patch. O, this is going to be beautiful. Now, you have me wanting to do one!! You are such an inspiration to me...and I don't believe I have EVER know anyone that stayed as busy as you do...and you get so much done! wear me to a frazzle !!
    hugs bj

  2. The quilt is just beautiful!
As for the shoes, I bet you have another pair just like that!! :)
It is all that pumpkin pudding going to your brain!

  3. This has to make blog posting history!! lol!! You are one of a kind (and honest).

    Still laughing...

  4. Hilarious! I do know what you mean about being so focused on a project that I ignore everything else. Thanks for the cautionary tale!

  5. LOL!!!!! I have not done that, but I have gone somewhere with two different earrings in....not on purpose.

    That quilt is beautiful!

  6. Kathy,
This really made me laugh out loud!!!! You crack me up, but honestly I totally can relate. Being in the zone I sometimes I have to go out, and often I look down to see what I am wearing. I much prefer staying in the middle of a project and enjoying the zone of joyful creating.

I hope you had a nice dinner. Knowing how much you are admired, don't be surprised if your coworkers show up with two different shoes might just start a new trend.

    P.S. your quilt looks stunning.

  7. ROFL Kathy! You had to have been the hit of the party. Those are some fabulous fabrics you have paired together. I am crocheting my fingers to the bone. Are you speaking with an accent now ;-)

  8. Kathy, Kathy, Kathy......You are such a hoot! That was one of those happenings that will come up in conversation again and again.....part of you legacy!

Your handy work is FABULOUS! I'm so incredibly impressed! Do you quilt for hire? I don't craft, I buy!

  9. Oh Kathy! I laughed and laughed when I saw your shoes! That is so funny. You really are focused! I'm a day late but I'm doing a handmade post so I'll link with you.
    Hugs, Rhondi

  10. Oh my goodness! Too funny Kathy...!

  11. Oh Kathy! I love you even more now! You are the best :) That sounds like something I might do, lol! I bet you and Earl got a good laugh and we need those this time of year!!

The quilt is STUNNING Kathy and I mean STUNNING!! I adore it and your sweet daughters will love them so much. It will be like wrapping themselves in there mother's warmth! What could be a better gift?

I made a countdown calendar chain to do with my kids. I think I will add that to the handmade holidays list!
    Love to you,

  12. Oh bless your heart Kathy! You are certainly in good company. When I worked in an office I always bought the same shoe in two colors (black and brown). I happened to look down one day and noticed that I had one brown and one black on. :o)
Your pinwheel quilt is coming along so beautifully! I am making one too only you are way ahead of my process! I am still putting the pinwheels together.
    Have a great day!
    Sincerely ~ Tricia Anne

  13. I'm sorry but that is the funnest thing! And I love the blocks, I have a pin wheel quilt just waiting to be quilted.

  14. I think you are the third blogger this week to do that and blog about it! Should we make a button? LOL.
I also didn't know you were making a quilt! Wonderful! I love the colors!

  15. I get all 'caught up' in something and can't hear things too! If I'm into it ...that's IT. LOL So I totally know what you mean. Uh, but the shoes. Now that's funny! And a picture too. Awesome! ;-)

  16. Oh my gosh! I have done the exact same thing! When my kids were younger, I was so excited to get a night out at the quilt store, I slipped on my shoes and rushed out the door. It wasn't till later, much later, I noticed they were different shoes, and one was open-toed and one wasn't. I thought I was the only one. We should form a support group. Thanks for the laugh. Mona

  17. Hello Kathy~I've just strolled in for my first visit...I've enjoyed taking a peek at your past posts. You've got so many wonderful DIY ideas. Your blog is so beautifully inviting.
We share similar taste for so many of the same design elements.

As fall came to a close I looked forward to winter (that's fast approaching), bringing a festive inspiration for trimming and baking.
Don't you love the aroma that fills the air during this season?
My cat also appreciates the evergreens and an occasional ping pong toss of my ornaments...

I thought I was the only one suffering with the *PAUSE* in menopause, it's nice to know I'm in good company. Thanks for the shoe mishap chuckle.

I've bookmarked you in my favs.
I look forward to coming by your charming blog again.
Come by for a visit. Your company would be nice.

    Sweet wishes,

  18. Clarence and I thank you for the laughs. Clarence wants to know if they had the same height heel? ;-)

Tell Earl thanks for the haiku. It was scathingly brilliant.

  19. Oh, I think you have me beat! My biggest faux pas was playing the piano at church with mismatched shoes - one was navy and one was black - but they were nearly alike. Both had closed toes and the same heels. Your dilemna made for a good laugh. I'd like to hear what happened after you discovered your mistake! ~Adrienne~

  20. Oh My Gosh Kathy!!! LOL! That's too funny! I love the colors and pattern of the quilt. It's going to be a beautiful quilt!

  21. Well Kathy, you made my day! I am still laughing! You're a kick! Love the quilt and pinecones in your teacup too!
Have a Merry Christmas and may God Bless you and your family!

  22. I needed a good laugh and you sure made me laugh out loud:)

  23. The quilt looks amazing! I know what you mean about being in the zone...I'm the same way when creating! But the shoes! JUST CRACKED ME UP! You will NEVER live that one down!

  24. LOL! Kathy, your first sentence made chuckle! LOL! If I was one of your children and I read that you can bet I'd be DYING to read it, LOL!

Oh! Then top it off with the story about the shoes! LOL! I've done that with socks before...luckily they were both dark one navy and one black so no one really noticed but me! I can get that way, too! Thanks for the chuckle... I needed it!

  25. This was just the post to put a smile on my face.. and you're right, at least they are the same color!

  26. Ohhh mom...... WHat am I going to do with you? LOL! This made me crack up. When I get home I will always double-check your footwear for you lol. xoxoxoxo

  27. Hi Kathy....I laughed along with everyone else....and then I shook my head realizing I am not alone in being forgetful....Thank you for admitting to the blog world that you did this and that you took a photo to prove it!!

  28. That's very funny.

Love the makings of your quilt. I know when I quilt I get lost to the world too.

  29. Thank you for the laugh you brought to my soul this evening. After a day filled with not so good news I needed a light hearted moment and you gave it to me.

    Bless you for sharing!

  30. Oh my gosh! You made me laugh out loud this morning! You know, I've done the same thing... though I think you get the prize for mismatched! still smiling inside myself... I love it!

thanks so much for visiting, commenting and posting about my 300th post celebration! Good Luck. I can hardly wait to see who wins!

    blessings. Dixie

  31. Oh Kathy, I can see grabbing two different colors but those must be pretty comfy shoes not to notice the draft on one set of toes!

Don't feel bad, I ran out of the house in my hubby's tennis shoes one day. Didn't bother me, but the pair I left for him had pink ties!

  32. *lol*...*lol*....*lol*...well your quilt is going to beautiful. I can't wait to see it finished!
on the other hand...oh my your feet!! How funny IS that??!!
I've done that before twice, years apart. They were not so drastically different like yours however...thats so funny.
    have a lovely day

Thank you for taking the time to say hello :)
