If you don't like the weather....

Give it ten minutes. Is there any place on earth that doesn't use that phrase to describe their weather?
This has been the winter that wasn't so far. Don't get me wrong, after 50+ years of living through Michigan winters, the charm of snow wears thin fairly quickly. I can still appreciate the beauty of giant flakes falling slowly to earth, but once they hit. Meh. Not so much.
But this January has been mostly dry and warm, and by warm I mean mid thirties to mid forties. Only a northern girl can appreciate those kind of temps as "warm"! Sunday saw the giant flakes falling softly and making a fluffy layer everywhere. Today, mid 50's weather turned everything into a delightfully balmy, but soupy mess.
I love how the snow shows up against the shed. I can see this will be the year of the great trim painting effort though. How can we love the chippy look in our homes so much when it looks this bad on a shed?
I'm rambling I know. I come home and putter. I haven't picked up the camera manual in at least 2 weeks. I can't get motivated to do much of anything this time of year. The doldrums of winter have set in and I look forward to wrapping myself in a blanket on the couch and dreaming the evening away.  Does the lack of sunshine affect you the same way?
One thing I know, January, with it's dark days and doldrum feeling is over. Tomorrow begins the shortest month of winter and then...Spring.
I. can't. wait.

  1. Love your red barn, Kathleen (even with the chippy paint). I don't love winter and wish for mild temperatures with rain in the valleys and snow in the mountains. I am looking forward to spring and sun. We haven't had much water though and here in the West we need it badly. I guess I should be careful for what I wish for.

  2. The snow does look so pretty when it is fresh and falling...I don't like "old" snow!!

I am still getting to know my camera but it is awfully boring shooting things in my house! Have you thought about going to the blog that gives Friday tutorials? It's on my sidebar. I have found it very helpful and you can scroll back a few weeks to the beginning.

    Have a great week!

    XO,
    Jane

  3. I'm like you... great to look at snow but oh my the shoveling and driving in it. No, no! Lived in northern Maine and Colorado so know a little bit about it.
Love your picture though. Stay warm!

  4. That is exactly why we live in Kansas ~ the sun shines almost every day of the year. I don't like gloomy cloudy days either and I have little motivation on those days. Keep bright lights on in the house on those days and it actually helps!

  5. That is what we say in Missouri about the weather! I like your red shed, chippy paint and all.

  7. Love your barn, chippy paint and all. I have been wrapped in blanket all month, but inspiration struck and I've spent some quality time in the craft room! I cannot wait for the time change :)

  8. I love to look at snow......in pictures only....
we had sunny skies here today and I actually was able to go out in flip flops....our bad weather will come in the spring when so much pollen is in the air that you can't leave the house.....I don't know which is worse snow or pollen....atleast snow doesn't turn the inside of your house yellow....

  9. Hello Fellow Michigander!! I've been busy doing projects but absolutely love being nestled in the wooded area and watching what little snow we have had falling , the tree branches glistening and the beauty of the fresh white snow. My favorite place has been in front of the window with a book in one hand and a cup of cocoa in the other. Now if I were driving or traveling in it, I'm sure I wouldn't have such a lovely outlook!

And I love your red barn!!! I agree, it could easily be a postcard!!

  11. We had sun most of the day yesterday on my side of the state. It was so invigorating to see. It melted all that snow we got Sunday, that I happened to be driving in....white knuckled by the way. Hate that! Great picture!

  12. Morning Kathy,

Our Virginia winter has been pretty mild so far. I must admit though...I love winter and snow! I love puling out my yarn and needles and getting cozy with a cup of something hot. I enjoy it because I know it only lasts for a few months and when it is 98 degrees and humid in July, I will be day dreaming of snow.

    I love your chippy barn!!!!

  13. Love the photo of the falling snow against the red of your shed!

It's been an incredibly mild winter so far. Normally we have at least a day or two of snow or an ice storm. Nada.

I'm actually feeling pressured to go outside and work in the garden. I thought I'd have more time to do some indoor projects!

We all fell in love with your photo of the cute and bright papers and now, everyone wants them. (we may even have to run a contest to see all the ways to SHOW OFF YOUR WRAPPERS !!)
Come by...I'll try to make cupcakes and you can have the whole batch....now....feel better?? :)

  15. Kathy, I love your shed! It is just the perfect backdrop for the snowflake portraits.

Yes, the weather can set the mood for the day. California has been without much rain and we have had mid 60's weather. Great for junking, bad for the water table.

  20. Hi Kathy,

I love your photograph of the barn and the snow. Here in New England if there isn't snow everything just looks dirty. Lots of mud, lots of gray and not much sunshine.

I wanted to stop by and invite you to a new blog that I am participating in, Focusing On Life. It's all about photography Kathy. Some of the women on there are amazing.

If you get a chance stop by:

    Happy Thursday,
