Looking for Spring

Happy Monday friends, and Happy February!
The sun is shining and Spring is in my heart if not in my yard. Isn't that just the way it should be?  I'm afraid I let myself get down about all the snow and cold when I'm longing for green and flowers. But February is short and there is Valentines day to look forward to and I am busying myself with making Spring things for the etsy shop. It cheers me up to use some bright colors to sprinkle here and there.
Now I admit, I am usually a coffee drinker, but lately I have been wanting tea more often. My only problem is that the pot gets cold so fast I always end up wasting a lot.  I was inspired to make a tea cozy to keep it hot longer and of course I wanted something that reminded me of Spring!
I am having a wonderful time mixing and matching fabrics for these little cottage cozies! And just so you know, that is a sneak peek of the new kitchen counter going in:>)  It's Ikea butcher block and  Earl finished the little spot near the stove where the coffee maker usually sits this weekend.
I love it, no more stained grout to clean!
The next piece will take a bit more work and much longer to install but we hope to have it done in a week or two. This little area gives me a preview and I love it so much I just can't wait to see the rest. This isn't a full remodel just a little freshening up, with new counter tops, sink and lighting, but it will make a huge difference and be a totally different look when it's finished.
So I have lots of projects to keep my busy and before I know it Spring will be here and I'll be ready for it.  How are you preparing for Spring? Any big plans for February?

  2. Darling tea cozy! I have a little house pattern I purchased awhile ago. Seeing how cute this turned out makes me want to try one, too. However, the sewing room is in such a state that it's in another state and I can't get there from here anytime soon.

Sweet countertop! I've been reading so many nice things about that Ikea butcher block. Makes me wish we had an Ikea somewhere in state. Not yet.

  5. Hi kathleen
Sorry you have had such a snowy winter. I think it has everyone longing for an early spring. I had forgotten that I always used to have a tea cozy to keep my teapot warm and I can't remember why I stopped doing it. I even had a patchwork blue and white house one that I made. Thanks for reminding me about tea cozies. I think I might make myself a couple when I have the time.

  6. That is a pretty tea cozy. I don't care for tea but love my coffee so probably won't try making a tea cozy. I'm trying to get into more sewing of crafts instead of just paper crafting and lotion & soap making. Are you still liking your Silhouette? I keep looking for more projects using it!

  8. I'm finding it hard to even consider Spring yet. We have potentially another 10 inches of snow coming Tues-Weds. I'm trying to just live in the moment so that I don't go stark raving mad from all the cold and snow.

You always pick the happiest looking fabric for your projects!
Your cozy definitely reminds me of Spring. I've got a similar pattern, but have never made it up.
The wood is looking very rich! I can't wait to see the whole kitchen.

  10. I love your tea cup. I found it's partner -- the bread and butter plate -- at a yard sale in the fall for 25 cents. So, it resides at work now, making my lunch time a little prettier.

Spring? I've not begun to prepare for it. We are deep into winter here in eastern Canada. AND I'm still enjoying winter MY way -- with a book a blanket and a cuppa!

  15. Adorable tea cozy, Kathy! Love it. What is the pattern name of that tea cup? It's gorgeous. Every year you show us your prim roses. Every year I have to wait a month before our Home Depot offers them for sale! Stay warm. Mimi

  19. Kathy, your sewing always impresses me and I just love the fabrics. And the counters...well I told you that's exactly what I wanted and didn't get. Sigh...

I wanted to reply to your comment but when I went to your profile it had 3 blog names that I didn't recognize and no Kathy's Cottage. And no email address. Not even here, on your home page. Just wondering.

I am doing the NO CARB thing again. It is the only diet that ever worked for me. I don't talk about it as it's not for everyone. And it shouldn't be, we are all different. Some think it's restictive to give up fruit, bread, pasta, etc. Well golly gee! I have cholesterol over the roof and high blood pressure. I can't seem to balance calories in with calories out. So this is for me. I do love sharing with like minded people. I would love to hear how you are doing and any tips you have.:)

    XO,
    Jane

  22. That cozy is just adorable! I'm not a tea drinker either but I just love all the cozies I always see on etsy.

Very cute cup too! Sort of reminds me of how Mary Engelbreit draws hollyhocks. flowers

  24. I love your colorful tea cozy...
and I know how pretty your counter tops are going to be...I am sitting here, at my daughter's, looking at her Ikea butcher block top on her island. Her hubs, Jent, made concrete counter tops for her cabinets and they bought this butcher block for their black island. Gorgeous....!!
