Our first Mosaic!

My gorgeous neices came to visit today! It is a tradition that when they come to my house we do crafts. They used to love to paint at my dining room table. Now they are teens and into other things. This is Allison, she spent the day working on some crochet trim for an apron she wants to make. These girls are talented!
Julianne, brought a project that I could help her with. For quite some time now, we have been so in love with the work of this lovely lady, that we have been dying to try it ourselves. That's right, we made our first mosaic piece! Penny, you are our inspiration:>)
Juju brought everything we needed, including this soon to be cute table that she got at Goodwill. She also had a stack of Goodwill dishes and the proper tools. She had been reading up on how mosaics are made and knew far more than I did so I just followed her lead.
Neither of us escaped unscathed, but they are minor cuts. Really, we are fine.
And here is the after. Their dad was coming to get them and we didn't have time to buff the grout off for the final photo, but I think Juju did a beautiful job. Are we as good as Penny? No, of course not, but it was a fun project and a fun day spent with my nieces. Now what else can I mosaic next time she comes?....

  1. I am in awe!! First of all I think it's wonderful that these girls love to spend time with you and do craft things. I'm impressed that young women want to do handy things...using their hands to make something beautiful. And as for that goodwill table with it's finished mosaic?? Wow, wow, wow!!!

  6. Julianne is still on cloud nine! She had so much fun doing this with you.

It turned out so beautifully. You know I'm not much for painted wood but, wow!, this looks so much better now.

I'm amazed that you two finished this in the short time you had today. Thanks again for keeping the girls-they enjoy staying with you SO much more than going with Mom and me.

  16. Hi Kathy -
What fun you had even though there was a boo boo or two. That little table is darling and it turned out so nice. It's a sweet memory of a special day together. Do you girls want to come and help me do the inside of my old birdbath? Every time I fill it I envision the mosaics there. Need to start shopping for the supplies. Off to Goodwill today - maybe I'll start collecting dishes. Come on by and give me a hand. It would be such fun!

  28. I am just now seeing this. That is an indication of how tired I have been and how my wrists hurt from the repetitive stress job I am doing. The table is gorgous. These three girls are tremendously talented. You are just so good at so many things. Thanks for sharing with all of us. LAS

  29. Hi There, I think you and your neice did a wonderful job with your mosaic. It turned out great for a first project. I am hooked on mosaic. A couple years ago I did my kitchen backsplash in vibrant primary colored broken dishes. I have been inspired by your blog and finally started my own about two weeks ago. The photo with my profile is of my kitchen mosaic. If you have a chance take a look at everydaydelight09.blogspot.com. I am on a very steep learning curve. I've been figuring it out by myself. I have a few glitches that I have to work out with my template. Thanks for the inspiration.
