Top Ten Things I love About Spring

This Spring is just a miracle. Maybe not for those of you who are used to warmth and flowers this time of year, but in Michigan? A miracle. We have a forecast for tomorrow of highs in the low 80's, and we have had record warmth for weeks. The lilac leaves are unfurling! In March! I admit, I'm a little scared of a frost, but I'm going to trust that everything will be ok. What else can I do?
So without further ado, let me share with you my top ten favorite spring things.
1. Raindrops instead of icicles.

2.Tomorrow is my day off and the sheets are going on the line! I may go to bed at 6 p.m.

3. Sunshine, glorious, warm, brilliant sunshine. It makes me want to find a sunspot and nap like a
kitten.

4. Garden planning! We may risk some peas and radishes and cooler weather crops this week. If it freezes we'll just try again.
 5. The first daffodils of the season. Unbelievable in March.

6.Open windows, it's been in the 50's at night and we have the windows flung wide open. Which leads to ......

7. Going to sleep to the chirping of the peepers. You know what peepers are right? Those dear little frogs who seem to wake up in early spring with what seems to be the sole purpose of singing. Love.
8. Waking up to the sounds of the birds singing. That's how you really know it's Spring:>) The birds strike up a chorus where the peepers leave off.

9. Finding the basket of previous years primroses out by the chicken coop in full bloom! When these little darlings look bedraggled and dead, give them a new life by planting them in an old basket and set it in the shade. They'll reward you next fall and spring!

10.The scent of the air. It smells so fresh and full of promise. All the green things unfurl and you can smell them coming to life.

Now it's your turn, tell me what do you love about Spring?

  2. I love everything you do Kathy, especially the sheets hung out to dry and then the want to hop into bed very early, just to snuggle under them. :o)

  3. I could just say AMEN and be done with it. I love the renewal...of life, and garden and hopes. Hopes of warmth and possibilities. Can't wait for warmer weather here. It has been snowing again.

  4. I, too, am loving this unusual spring.

We have so many frogs here that we don't need the windows open to hear them loud and clear. We are still waiting for our first daffodil to open...so far, only buds here so far north of you. ;-)

  5. Beautiful photos Kathy!

Longer days....the smell of the wet earth, the sun on my shoulders as I walk around the house looking at the gardens....ah spring!

  6. Can you believe I am not a fond lover of Spring!! It is my least favorite season of the year. I LOVE the Fall season best and Summer is my next favorite. We have so much wind in the spring ~ maybe that is why it is my least favorite. Do enjoy your day off tomorrow and glad it will be warm (hot) there. It has been very warm here too.

  7. So glad you are enjoying Spring weather! We are having unseasonably cold weather, with snow! Not typical at this time of the year for us. It snowed again this morning. Thanks for sharing Spring with us - we're looking forward to it's arrival!

  10. Your photos are all so pretty, Kathy.
I've never tried growing primroses...yours sure is pretty.
Spring isn't very pleasant here most of the time as we tend to have the winds and sand. We all like summer better. :)

  11. Our weather in Illinois has been pretty much the same as yours...except that it is in the high 70's at night and it's difficult to sleep. But I have daffs blooming and the sun comes out everyday so I'm happy!

I love your pretty pictures! :)

  12. You just about nailed it as far as my favorites. I live for this time of year! I especially love the sound of the spring peepers and that first time I sit with my face tilted up to the sun. Heaven!

Everything is starting to come up here too and so early which kind of worries me but I'm going to enjoy it regardless!

  14. Hi Kathy, I know from growing up in Michigan how glorious it is to have warm weather this early in the season. All our family still live there and surely happy to let us know all about the high temps. LOL
Love your pics. Sounds like you enjoyed the perfect day.

  15. Wow and we thought we were having exceptionally warm temps here in OK! You guys are probably dancing in the streets! We are known to have hard freezes around the first of April, so we're holding our breaths as well...so far, so good. :)
I didn't know that about the primroses. Thanks for the tip! After having warm, humid temps for about a week, we had several days of rain and now the air is crisp, cool and clean! That's what I love about Spring...one thing, anyway ;)
