Crazy? Well yes, yes I am...

This is my dress for Lauren's wedding. I took this photo just moments ago and I'm working up the nerve to cut into the fabric. Does anyone else have that problem? Making that first cut always gives me the heebie jeebies. But back to my insanity. The wedding is in two weeks. Twelve days to be exact. Twelve days and the clock is ticking and I have been busy with arrangements and orders (and yes, I am still working full time) and somehow my dress  has not materialized.  I've looked in the stores and come up with nothing, and online but with this little time I worry the fit won't be right and I don't see anything I love that doesn't cost a fortune, and then I will be 4 days from the wedding and having nightmares of wearing nothing but a slip as my daughter walks down the aisle. Besides, if you know me at all you know how cheap frugal I am and that paying hundreds of dollars for a dress I will wear for a few hours just isn't in me.and why do dresses for people my age look like old lady dresses or bags? So I have this dress in my head that needs to get out and all I can do is hope that when it does get out of my head and onto the sewing machine it looks as good on me as it does in my head. But really, how often does that happen? Really.
So I'm ready to get out there and cut into this. I'm thinking the collar, full skirt and longer sleeves, tea lengthish, because I need the added hassle of altering the pattern.
In the end I'm not sure if I'll be wearing this, or a white jacket that ties in the back.
Pray for me.
Did I mention I'm making her veil too? Yeah......

  1. Wow! Lovely pattern. You have taken on a mammoth task of sewing but I'm sure it will be lovely.

  2. Talk about overwhelming! I'd sooner climb Mt. Everest!
I do love your choice though and know that you'll be a confident and beautiful mother of the bride!

  3. Your design will be beautiful. I have faith in you. Good luck.

  4. ..or a white jacket that ties in the back...lol!! Kathy, even with all the stress and activity you still have your sense of humour!

I really like this pattern and the fabric looks wonderful...you will look beautiful...even if it IS a white jacket with a tie in the back ;)

I love that you are making the bridal veil!! xoxox

  5. Wasn't it you I was just talking to, bemoaning how hard it is to start cutting something out? I totally understand the difficulty of that first cut.

I hope to see you in this dress...but if you are in white and appear to be giving yourself a hug, I'll understand and pass the word that you're compensating for all of Lauren's hugs that you'll soon be missing. Will that work? ;-)

I was actually considering making a new skirt to wear to the wedding but I truly don't think I can fit it in between now and then. You are Wonder Woman!

Keep breathing. You can do this. Love you!

  6. The blue lace fabric is gorgeous and I have faith you will create a beautiful dress, and that all the wedding plans will come together on time.

  7. You will do just fine! The fabric is beautiful, the pattern equally so. Once you've made that first cut, the hardest part will be behind you.

  8. Crazy?? Who cares! The fabric is beautiful and the pattern looks easy so you'll be okay. That pattern shouldn't be too hard to fit either. Just get started!!

  9. LOL!!! Deep breaths (Here. I am passing you a paper bag)

Good luck with the dress. It will be so pretty, and not old ladyish! Darn those fashion designers...

    xoxo Debbie

  10. Go Kathy! Go Kathy! Go Kathy!
    *- :o) -*
That is me cheering you on dear friend!! The lines are my arms and the stars my fingers! :o)
Deep breath!! You are doing a super job and I am dying to see your dress when it is done. I WISH I knew how to sew garments! Gosh, it would be better if I just showed up in a slip than try to make a dress. :o)
    Sending hugs. Trish

  11. LOL....you sound just like a mother of the bride! I know you are an amazing seamstress and your dress will turn out just beautiful!

  12. It's gonna be great! Sending a little prayer your way :) Mimi

  13. I don't sew at all but can imagine the fear that comes with cutting that fabric. I love the pattern you picked out. Wrap style dresses like that are always very flattering. You'll have to model when you get it finished...and girl, you'd better get on it. :)

  14. I can't wait to see the finished dress! It's going to be fabulous!

  15. I love making veils...I made my daughter's, both of my nieces, my sister-in-law's, and one for a family friend's daughter. Oh...I made mine too...33 years ago.
I love the pattern and the fabric that you picked for your dress. It will get easier once you make that first cut...and I know it will be so beautiful.

  16. Beautiful fabric and pattern. Can't wait to see more. I've been where you are - making my dress near the last minute and making veils and other things. Including her dress! Take it one step at a time, my friend - you can do it!

  17. Hi Kathy,

That fabric looks gorgeous. I can only imagine how difficult it is to make the first cut. Never sewn before, it would be a real chance. You are so talented, I am sure it will look gorgeous. Twelve days, and you are making your dress and her veil. You are brave.

  18. I'm sorry that I've driven you to such insanity lol. But you are a super-seamstress and I know that you will look BEAUTIFUL on my wedding day :) I love you, mom!

  19. The pattern is lovely and the color is wonderful! Perfect for your coloring! I have NO doubt you will be beautiful and the dress will be as well!
I am so sorry I have been such a bad blogging friend! Even when I get around I don't always leave comments. I apologize for that!Have a sweet Labor Day Weekend!

  20. I agree with niece Karen! I am partial to garments that tie in the back. What are children for if not to drive you crazy? This will be a beautiful dress and I am looking forward to many pix. LAS

  21. OOO, Kathy, I love this pattern...and the fabric is sooo pretty. You probably have it made by now, it looks like a million dollars on you and Earl has a big grin on his face, thinking of all the money you saved him by making it yourself.
You are such a talented lady....
    xoxo bj

  22. I really love that pattern and hope you show the completed dress!

  23. Laughed along with you on this post - crazy, maybe, but you know what you want and this is how you get it! I know it will be beautiful as will every detail of the wedding! I'll be praying for ya! Enjoy this special time...

    Hugs & Blessings,

Thank you for taking the time to say hello :)
