The New Office

You may remember the "before" photo taken after our youngest got married in August and flew the coop. (sniff) We still miss her a lot. But Earl needed a new office and since the space opened up.....
Here is an update on the office so far. It's not finished, we need shelves in the closet, and I need to decide on a window treatment, although the sunlight coming through is wonderful! The room he used before is on the north side of the house and was a lot less sunny.  He can look out over the back yard and watch the deer, and other wildlife playing.
I was afraid the gray he chose would be too dark, but I really like it! It helps that the room is so bright. I also looked for a rug that would bring in a little color. I am not usually loving the orange and rust tones that are found in this rug. In fact I would usually tell you I don't care for those colors at all, but the rug is more on the terra cotta side, less orange, and has some touches of gray in it that goes so well with the colors in the wall. I think it looks nice with the new desk too. A friend was going to donate the desk to get it out of her garage and I told her we would haul it away for her. Anything for a friend right? ;>)  We both love how it has turned out so far.  Actually, with the last of the kids gone it is going to cause a ripple effect as we spread out to the two extra rooms that used to be their bedrooms. A computer will come out of the living room, some of my craft stuff is coming out of our bedroom, everything will be spread out and rearranged. It's going to be a long process, but I am looking forward to freshening things up!  I'll continue to share as things evolve, if I waited until they were done you would never see them! What household projects are you working on?

  2. How lovely to have that space for your own. I wonder what you will do with the window, maybe a blind, Roman perhaps?

  3. That looks very handsome and manly! Your husband will surely enjoy his office. Now you just need an easy chair so you can visit him when he's busy. =D

  4. What a good friend you are to take that off her hands... It looks great. I think a shade on the window would be great that way you could allow as much light in as you want. I'm knee deep in the ripple affect and finally started purging and rearranging my craft space. Yikes! What made me think I needed all this stuff.

  5. I agree with Vee, a cozy chair in the corner for you to visit would be perfect! The rooms looks like a wonderful space for an office and the free desk is wonderful.

I am looking forward to the changes you will be making. I love to see works in progress. I always show mine!

  6. This is great, Kathy! I really like the wall color, my gray came out too blue...this is what I wanted. And the rug is pretty. I especially like the cabinet doors on the desk. I'm perplexed why someone would not want this!! Anyway...good job!

You of all people should have a craft room! :)

  9. We experienced the same thing over the last few years. Still trying to figure out what to do with all the space. At least when they were home THEY kept it clean and dusted! :D

  10. The office looks wonderful! I love your 'new' desk. Wish I had a friend who needed me to do a favor like that. I hope to make new drapes for the patio doors in the dining room soon. I've used an off-white sheet for too long and it's time to get the fabric cut, stitched and hung so we have a 'real' drape.
