Heavenly Sunshine

Heavenly Sunshine,
heavenly sunshine,
flooding my soul with
glory divine,
heavenly sunshine,
heavenly sunshine,
Hallelujia , Jesus is mine....

Does anyone remember singing that as a child in Sunday School?
It's been running through my head as I go about my housework this morning with the sunshine streaming in through the windows. It may be a balmy 11 degrees outside, but I don't need to go anywhere today and it isn't so much the cold I hate, (although I DO hate the cold!) it's the days of endless grey that January in Michigan brings. I have come to the realization that I am solar powered and what seems like never ending dark in the winter puts me in a tailspin that only bright sunshine can pull me out of.
Well, sunshine and a few flowers.
Try to ignore the dirty window and focus on the orchid I found at Home Depot for $5.  They had racks of them in all different colors, along with their dependable January offering of primroses for 98 cents a piece. I bought 4 of those for the dining room table. Seriously, if you were getting married in January can you imagine these gorgeous orchids lining your reception tables, maybe with the stems wrapped in ribbon and oodles of candles? For five bucks each!? Don't think the nursery or florist is the only place for your flower fix, Home Depot rocks my flower world.

So here's my day, clean up the house, work on etsy orders and then collapse and try to stay awake after 6 p.m.  What does your day look like?

  1. Allison loves the orchids we see at Kroger-but they're way more than $5. You got a great deal!

If I manage to get to our HD, maybe we can find a similar deal, although I never seem to find cheap primrose there like you do every year. Still, hope springs eternal...

  3. So glad you're getting a sunny day, Kathleen. Enjoy it to the fullest.
It is still 9:30 before it comes up here and sets before 5.We are sandwiched between two mountains so we don't get any direct sunlight at this time of year either! Fortunately I've been too busy for it to effect me much.

  4. Kathy, I enjoy rainy days... love the sound of the rain on the tin roof, love taking a nap when it's raining, love going to bed at night when it's raining. BUT, after a couple days of it I am so ready for sunshine I want to cry. And January/February/March are our very raining, grey, dreary months. Mud everywhere and always a spitting sky. So.... yes, I can totally relate to you! Give me a little sunshine and my entire outlook on life changes! :-)

I love your picture of the orchid in the window, your red shed and white snow outside. It's beautiful.

Happy sunny day to you.... from a dark, dreary day here in Tennessee! Hugs,

  5. That song was one of my favorites when I was young. I have not heard it sung in a church for years and years. Now it will run through my mind all day-and that is a good thing.
Those orchids are beautiful. xo Diana

  6. Love seeing your pretty orchid. It is so nice to find something flowering when it is freezing outside. House plants, especially flowering one's can brighten any room.

  7. I do remember that song, yes. My day? I'm sitting at work; lovely day outside (now) as the weather has warmed up from - 17 Cel (1.5 F) to a balmy -8 Cel (17 F). Work is ticking by nicely, and soon I'll be able to drive home and actually experience the car warming up (as opposed to arriving home just as I feel heat on my tootsies). Ahhhh, Nova Scotia winters!

  8. Yes, I sang that song too!
I do love orchids, and yours were certainly a bargain!

  9. Your flowers are beautiful! Today, now that the ice on the roads are gone, I am headed out to the store for provisions. We are suppose to have a "wintery mix" tomorrow...

  11. Staying awake on these dark afternoons and evenings is nearly impossible...the sound of someone's snoring reaches my ears right now! That's a wonderful juxtaposition of orchid and snow. Keep your sunny side up. Not much longer now before the days will be noticeably longer...if the sun is out.

  12. At least the sun is shining here in Central Illinois and it might melt some snow as it warms this weekend.
A little sunshine sure makes a diff doesn't it? That is a beautiful orchid. Only 5$?

  13. It does make all the difference in the whole when the sun comes out! Wen the sun comes out I do so much more than when it isn't. Sun is inspiring. It's been popping out all day! Have a great night!

  14. Hi Kathy,
The sun is shining here today. The last week it's be gray and gloomy. I miss snow, because at least when you see the ground covered, you can accept the gray sky. I am going to paint today. I promised myself that I would paint some flowers. Your orchid is beautiful.

P.S. I think you could design amazing rugs.

  17. Beautiful orchid...and we all welcome the sun...
For some reason, you are now showing up on my email as a NO REPLY....and when I click on your name, it takes me to a page that only shows ONE blog you follow....doesn't list your blog name or link. *heavy sigh...Google is messin' with ya, me thinks.

  18. Oh, the gloom makes it seem even colder. Surprisingly, when we had the bitter cold last week, it was fairly sunny.

Kathy...I want to first thank you for the comments on my past few posts. The problem is, when I click on your name to come and visit or send an email, I am getting a profile page of a Russian blogger!! And it's a REAL blog when you click on it. Go to your comment on my last post and click your name and see if this happens to you. Not sure what to do.
