If Winter Comes, Can Spring Be Far Behind?

Even though it is bitter cold outside today in Michigan, (9 degrees right now!) We finally had some sunshine today. A little sunshine makes the cold so much easier to bear. You know what else makes it easier? Pink sweetheart roses in the clearance bin at Kroger. $4.50 worth of Springtime dreaming. Worth every cent.

Our niece is home from New York City for a few days and asked if she could visit tonight. Can she? I just about jumped up and down with joy :>) So we asked the rest of the family over too, since they are being kind enough to share her with us, and I set the table for a dinner party tonight. A winter woodland theme, silvery candle sticks with my "birch" candles, a crochet tablecloth and ticking stripe runner and the brown transferware.
Earl made Shepherds Pie, and Crème Brule and I'll round out the meal with a salad full of  lettuce, strawberries, feta and toasted pecans. It's nice to have something fun to look forward to now that Christmas is past.  How about you? Do you have something fun to look forward to this month? Are you getting any sunshine? If not, some clearance flowers make it feel like Spring. I highly recommend getting some :>)

  1. Your roses are beautiful and the menu sounds wonderful. You just made me realize that maybe inviting people over regularly for awhile would help us get through winter. Even here in Texas it's cold but not as cold as you have. TG!

  2. Good plan. Pretty table. Gorgeous roses. You have a NYC niece, too? Aren't they fun? They know so much and do so much. It's all very interesting for sure.

  4. Hi Kathy. Those flowers are lovely. Your dinner sounds delicious. January is always such a difficult month after so much activity during the Holidays. Next month is Brayden's birthday and I'll fly home for that. Wishing you a wonderful evening.

  5. I love those flowers and what a bargain. Your table is beautiful and such a great menu...I love that Earl cooks. I think we can be very happy in the colder months when we have a reason to "give" as you did with your family. And to keep busy...that doesn't hurt! :)

  6. The only sunshine I'm getting is what I create in my heart. Boy, that sounds so cornball; but it's so necessary to get me through this polar vortex. I love your table setting (birch candles are so lovely) and the menu sound delicious. On the 26th, my German daughter is having a birthday so that will be fun to prepare for. Stay warm and dry! Peace!

  9. That's so awesome to get a visit from a special niece! Your table looks beautiful and the menu sounds heavenly. Here in VA it was 8 this morning, but I spend January inside quilting, looking at all the pretty fabric colors which helps me remember that spring is right around the corner. BTW your header is beyond gorgeous!!!

  10. Your bargain flowers are gorgeous! I love what you did with your table. Do I have something to look forward to this month? You bet. Our anniversary trip to the Oregon Coast! We don't have sunshine here today - it's gray and foggy. But dry and not terribly cold. No complaints from me.

  16. The roses look beautiful in that vase! It's been so cold here! Not 9 degrees but it might as well have been. I did see some forsythia starting to bloom in a yard last week so I'm hoping that means a short january winter and an early spring!
